Arguably one of the most popular Whiskies ever. They have recently opened a seafood restaurant there too.

Good food made fresh to order by award winning chefs.
Only at weekends, the rest of the time it is a great spot for coffe and cake or Lunch. Great food, great prices, and more awared winning chefs. You can even take a pedalo out on the loch with a picnic!

Firm favourite for over a decade it does great Italian Food. Dornoch is the prettiest medieval market town with an incredible beach and a Cathedral where Madonna had Rocco Christened. Great shopping too!

Dornoch
Dornoch has many great eateries, a world famous Golf Course, miles of sandy beach, some fab shops, and a beautiful Cathedral. It is about the prettiest medieval market town I have ever seen in Scotland. The views from the dining room of the Royal Golf Hotel over the golf course and the Firth to the light house at Tarbatness are unforgettable.
The view from here is incredible at any time of day, but sunsets are breath taking. I won't describe it - just GO! You won't be disappointed.

I think it's best approached from the sea by kayak (go in at Golspie pier and it's a short paddle Northwards and there's a wee beach you can pull out and picnic on.), but if that's not your thing then go by car. There's incredible gardens and birds of prey displays. Inside are collections of stuffed animals and other very odd bits and pieces.

There's incredible gardens and birds of prey displays. Inside are collections of stuffed animals and other very odd bits and pieces.
Parks & Nature
The now empty Castle in the woods at Carbisdale and the abandoned walled garden are quite something. The Castle was built by one of the Duchesses of Sutherland with a pay off from her husbands family. She didn't put a face on the clock tower facing the railway below. She said it was for when they were riding on the train as she "wouldn't give them the time of day" Sounds like quite a gal!
There are lovely hiking and MTB trails, and they join onto the trails on the other side by a foot bridge along side the viaduct over the river. You can then go into Balblair wood and ride or walk the trails ( up to 14k on one route alone) until you come out a hidden wee path that is only a few hundred meters from the pod. Add in a refreshment break at the Invershin on your way between the two woods for the perfect day.

The Loch has good fishing, and Osprey can be seen hunting there when they come to nest. They nest near Loch Fleet. The main reason to go and see it though is because the windy crazy road (not gritted in winter so avoid it if it's icy) is so unkempt grass usually grows out of the middle of it!

Betwen Portmahomack and Balintore is a standing stone with a pictish Boar carved into it. In Balintore Fishermans Hall is a stone that the picts raised to commemorate 3 Danish Princes. Ties to the Vikings are strong in this area.
There's also a great beach at Balintore.

Could literally have one of everything. It's sister store across the street in the old Jail is also a delight. The cafe in the courthouse is a good place to park unwilling spouses.

You can get most stuff in Bonar, but shops are closed by 8 so if you didn't get something on your way up through the Highlands Tain offers the best selection of outdoor stores and supermarkets for what you might have missed. It is also another quaint medieval market town.

Entertainment & Activities
For fun we climb and there's over 30 sports climbing routes from 3-7 here. The walk in is quick but really beautiful. Parking on the A9 is good, and the views from the top of the routes over Loch Fleet and the railway are pretty special.

For fun we kayak and Golspie Pier gives you good access to the sea and some lovely paddles and beaches. The club located next to the pier is very welcoming and would be happy for you to go join them on Tuesdays and weekends when they get together.
