Food Scene

Vegetarian spot: unquestionably the best pizza in town, and very affordable as well (most are around 20k). Super cool scene all the time, but when they have live music it's enchanting--frequently it's hip jazz trios and such. There is a downstairs area as well that backs up to Parque Lineal la Presidenta (with a rear entrance). If you don't arrive early you will likely need to wait for a table, especially during weekends and peak hours. 1st-timers tip: you CAN go half-and-half on the pizzas! Their homemade sodas are also pretty fantastic (homemade basil soda?! Umm...si, por favor).

Brand new place (as of spring 2017) that is solidly in the current conversation for the hippest spot in town. One of the most innovative all-vegetarian menus you'll find anywhere, along with some visually stunning interior design. The owners went all-out to give this place a really nice, garden-like vibe throughout. This place frequently gets amazing live music acts on the weekends too. You'll have to pay a small cover (5k or so), but it's definitely worth it.

Most "gringos" make their way to either Cafes Pergamino or Velvet to get their coffee fix, but I would highly recommend this spot as a great--and definitely quieter--alternative. Perhaps a bit more out of the way over in the Manila neighborhood, but still very walkable from the Lleras area. The bakery goods here are as good as you'll find, and the overall ambiance is just sublime: quaint, understated and relaxing. A near-perfect cafe, in all regards.

My favorite spot in the Lleras area if you're craving a simple, no-frills omelette and coffee in the morning. It's a humble space, but with some vintage, colonial-style architecture and a quiet, peaceful vibe. A perfect place to read the newspaper alongside your morning coffee ritual.

This place can be a bit hit-and-miss, both in terms of the weekend social scene and the service, and I wouldn't send someone there if they were just looking for the best meal, period (the menu is not exactly extensive). However, that said: the decor and interior design of this place are pretty special, and definitely make it worth seeking it out--if only to grab a spot at the bar for a drink. It's tucked away on the 3rd floor up above a local fast-food eatery, and you have to enter through a nondescript side door and then up a series of stairs (many locals aren't even familiar with this place). On the occasions when they have live music, this is an excellent spot to spent an entire night.

Getting Around

They rent motos as well. Using the metro and/or 2-wheeled transportation is highly recommended for getting around town....car traffic is the pits!

Parks & Nature

Taking the metrocable up through the barrios and comunas to the park is an absolute must while you're here. If you'll be up in and around Arvi on any given day, feel free to let me know, as I live within a few clicks of it and may be around as well.
