They make a good take away sandwich. Order it with everything on. I ask for a paper bag as opposed to the Styrofoam containers they normally put them in. They have a restaurant next door for sitting down.

Go for the day, start by visiting the visitors center. Hike Kilauea iki for a good idea of what the calderas look like from the floor. Visit the Thurston Lava tube, and don't miss the Jaggar Museum with views of Hale Ma'uma'u.

Rent a bike and ride out to the lava entry point. Wear long pants. You may see some park rangers, and they can point you to lava flows up hill. Make sure you wear closed toe shoes, and bring plenty of water.
