The perfect example of an old-time roadside attraction. The Desert View Tower and Boulder Park, California Historical Monument #939, has a long history. It has been a way station for travelers East and West for centuries, and you may find in the rocks many signs left of their passage (ask about the Yoni (yonee).

A premier mountain getaway, just an hour east of San Diego, in the beautiful Cuyamaca mountains. Take a step back in time to the days of Julian’s beginning rooted in the 1870’s gold rush. Get away from the hectic rush of city life. See where gold was discovered—shop stores housed in historic buildings dating back to the 1870’s—sleep in a romantic B&B or historic hotel—sample Julian’s famous apple pie —hike and picnic amid oaks and pines—ride down Main Street in a horse-drawn carriage.

After visiting the Desert View Tower & Boulder Park,as we were leaving we noticed a few flying saucers on the side of the road with a sign that read “Coyote’s Flying Saucer Retrievals & Repairs”. Heading over, we were quickly greeted by the “store” owner, Coyote. What a character this man is! I have never met anyone like him. He comes off as a very sincere man to me, quirky as can be, a forever-child at heart & just brimming with extraterrestrial humor. His store front consists of flying saucers, but also a “theater” in the back where they have movie night, projecting the films onto a huge boulder.Keep your eyes peeled along the drive. Coyote has decorations all over the place!

This place is legendary in the SD community! They even invented the taquito or rolled taco. The real gem of El Indo is the tortillas (since it's technically a tortilla factory before it's a restaurant) and their chips. You cannot come here without leaving with a bag of chips and a stack of tortillas.

Thai eatery with a relaxed ambiance offers popular rotisserie chicken & unique sauces They will make you a to go picnic basket! I actually have only ever gotten picnic baskets here. The dipping sauces are awesome - I especially like the sweet n sour and chutney which are both pretty unique tasting.Their chicken is to die for and the dipping sauces are amazing. My last visit I started with the vegetarian spring rolls and they may well become an obsession! The dining room can be noisy and it's definitely a no frills, no table service experience, but for the price it is hands down one of the best casual dining restaurants in San Diego! I

At roughly 1300 feet above sea level , Mt. Helix Park is recognized as one of San Diego County's most magnificent landmarks, where people come for spectacular views, for a walk to the top, along the Yawkey Trail, or simply to relax and take in the tranquility of its beautiful rock formations and native landscape. The view from the top is one of the best in San Diego. You get a 360 view of the area, looking over to the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other. If you’re looking for a workout, the amphitheater steps would make a great place to get some cardio in. Mt. Helix Park is generally open from sunrise to sunset daily.

The scenic pathway up Cowles Mountain is one of the most popular trails in San Diego County. The trailhead starts in the San Carlos neighborhood on the corner of Golfcrest Drive and Navajo Road and summits the highest point in the City of San Diego. Visitors will enjoy great views during the entire ascent but the summit offers 360 degree panoramic views of downtown San Diego, Mexico, North County and Orange County on a clear day. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Inside a small wood-shingled building on La Jolla’s oceanfront Coast Blvd lies a beach-themed gift shop and access to one of La Jolla’s coolest attractions. In fact, tourists who wander into Sunny Jim’s Cave Store to browse might just be surprised by the dark tunnel leading down to Sunny Jim cave, the only sea cave in California that is accessible by land. If you have some time to spare in La Jolla, a duck into the cave is well worth a few dollars and maybe 30 minutes. There is a small entry fee (adults are $5 and kids are $3).
