Dutchies is situated right on Grotto Beach. Grotto Beach is one of the most striking South African beaches and has Blue Flag status. 3km 's - about 10-15 minute walk from Sandpipers 2.
The ocean is in front of us and the incandescent Olifantsberg behind us.
Grotto Beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, long walks and beach games. You can in fact walk 18km from Dutchies along the beach to De Kelders.
In whale season you can watch the whales from Grotto beach and see them lobtailing, sky hopping and breaching.
This is a pristine beach that is the pride of Hermanus and we are very lucky to be situated on it. The view from our terrace is amazing – especially at sunset.

At the far end of the beach, the lagoon enters the sea and this is a popular spot for families with young children who can splash around in the shallow, warm water. The beach is a typical sandy beach offering steady waves and in summer the water is a pleasant temperature. On the town side of the beach there is a restaurant, a play park, lots of parking and good ablution facilities. Lifeguards are in attendance throughout the season

A visit to the Old Harbour Museum give some insight into the history of the fishing and whaling industry, and talks by local experts about the shoreline and the inter-tidal zone are held on request.
The Old Harbour was first declared a museum in 1972 and old equipment such as fishing boats and fish drying stands were restored to form part of the outdoor museum. The telescope next to the war memorial cannons above the Old Harbour was donated to the town by the Rotary Club and a few coins can buy time to watch the whales frolicking in the middle of the bay. Many guided tours and walks start from this spot.
