he Farmers Arms offers a perfect blend of country charm combined with a sophisticated menu, extensive wine list, and professional service. While it is a more relaxed style of service, with people coming to the bar to order food and drinks, the menu itself is far from your typical pub menu. Each dish has been carefully considered by the executive chef and the menu changes regularly depending on the season and local produce available. The layout of the pub’s interior allows people to sit in several different areas, from traditional seating to around the bar, at high tables, in the more intimate cushioned booths, at the three long communal tables, and of course, the beer garden, where your pets are welcome to join you,

Alla Wolf-Tasker and team welcome you to Wombat Hill House Cafe for simple food, sourced locally wherever possible and served in one of Daylesford's most beautiful locations. Situated in the midst of wonderful gardens on an ancient extinct volcano- Wombat Hill House Cafe is a place of great enchantment where even a furry and ponderously slow wombat, might grow some wings and fly. Drop-in for a great coffee, a glass of wine, a sweet or savory snack, or just a bit of warming comfort food. Wine by the glass and bottle to enjoy on the premises. A small range of beautiful mementos is also available to purchase in-store and online. Toy wombats are very popular as are the Grow. Cook. Eat books that raise money for the Daylesford Primary School Kitchen Garden Program. No reservations, free parking, pets welcome, and wheelchair access.

You can't miss this stylishly renovated majestic hotel on the corner of Burke Square, nor should you. The pub has an excellent, ever-changing bar menu featuring fresh, seasonal produce in contemporary dishes as well as pub classics (you can still get a parma), and an impressive wine list and selection of tap beers. Try to claim a deck chair for a sundowner before settling in at the bar, verandah, or dining room.

Sault Restaurant is set behind a playing fountain in a beautiful two-story country house, Sault Restaurant gives visitors the impression they are deep within the heart of rural France. It is only when a kangaroo bound into sight across a distant paddock that you realize you are well and truly in Australia. Taking its name from a French town famed for its lavender, Sault is also a working lavender farm and distillery sitting amidst acres of lavender and overlooking its own lake. Head chef Santiago Nine-Fernandez hailing from Spain lends his hand to create a wonderful array of regionally inspired seasonal dishes. Sault has a full page dedicated to tapas, so guests can enjoy the beautiful Spanish influence on their menu along with a seven-course tasting menu, based around the ancient recipes of Spain but using the brilliant local produce that is available. Sault also has a beautiful wedding barn overlooking their lake, and during the summer months when the lavender fields are in full bloom it is truly the region's most breathtaking wedding venue.

A series of artworks by local artist Kim Barter showcase Italian migrant characters inspired by photos found at Daylesford’s local museum add another element of extending the hospitality to old friends, and new. The seasonal menu offers traditional Italian cuisine, with a modern take. Dishes like lamb cutlets, eggplant parmigiana, and squid ink tagliolini with clams & prawns are offered alongside a pizza menu, with all pasta, bread, and pizza dough made in-house. A mix of local and Italian wines, liqueurs, and spirits have all been selected to complement the menu.

The grass is thick and lush on our farm at Green Hills. You’ll find it out the other side of Malmsbury where the rich volcanic soil grows rich green pasture. Here, our prime lambs and cattle are free to graze. We spend a lot of time with our stock. This means they are used to people and are very calm. They enjoy the pasture and chew their cud resting in the shade of the old pine trees. We are very proud of the humane way our stock travel only a few kilometers for processing. Less stress means better meat. So, when you buy meat from The Daylesford Meat Co. you know it’s local, grass-fed, and always delicious. Green Hills Natural Beef and Lamb are now some of the most sought-after meat in the country gracing the menus at leading restaurants across Victoria and Interstate. You can have it delivered directly to your door by ordering today on our website or dropping it into our shop in Daylesford.

Based in Daylesford, 'winespeake cellar + deli' has been 7 years in the making. In 2013, a little wine shop and bar called Wine and the Country was established, showcasing the region's and the World's most sought-after producers. Owner Jen Latta started the business off the back of her husband Owen Latta's family vineyard and winery Eastern Peake, with the aim to bring extraordinary wines, into a relaxed and cozy atmosphere, in the heart of Daylesford. Over the 7 years of having Wine and the Country, Jen also added a delicatessen/cafe next door (Dos Deli) and the two operated side by side and soon became must-visits in Daylesford. 'winespeake cellar + deli' is a culmination of the two previous businesses, coming together under the one roof and new brand to an iconic location in Daylesford. Now positioned in a stunning building with floor-to-ceiling windows, at 26 Vincent Street, this new location will help the 'winespeake cellar + deli' team to become an institution in Daylesford. With the ethos fixed firmly around small production, biological and healthy vineyard management, minimal intervention in the cellar...these wines have become the most sought after all around the World. The delicatessen items are sourced much the same way. Come and visit this wine and cheese lovers paradise. We can't wait to welcome you in!

Served with helpings of drama and intrigue, and stunning wildflowers and animal life, your Picnic at Hanging Rock will be a gourmet affair if you gather your fare from the farm gates, provedores, and wineries and in surrounding towns. An intriguing history The legend of Peter Weir’s 1975 film of Joan Lindsay’s novel Picnic at Hanging Rock is probably part of your attraction to this landmark, though it's attracted picnickers since the early days of European settlement. Goldrush bushrangers like 'Mad Dog' hid out amidst the bizarrely perched boulders. You too can clamber over these rocks, re-enacting your favorite part of its history. Celebrations Tell your own stories at the picnic races, held twice a year on New Year's Day and Australia Day, and draw punters from afar. Local food and wine are justifiably celebrated at the annual Harvest Picnic in late February. Check out classic cars at the annual Car Display picnic day, or race around the rock for Run The Rock every April. Catch huge international acts playing music against the Hanging Rock backdrop throughout the year. For the ultimate Hanging Rock experience, camp overnight and scare yourself silly with tall tales at Camp Out At The Rock.

Ten minutes north of Daylesford, Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm is an iconic property nestled among the rolling hills of Shepherds Flat. The 100-acre property was once farmed by Swiss-Italians, who came to Australia in the 1850s looking for new opportunities. European-style gardens were planted out to frame and meander around the original stone buildings. Productive vegetable and herb gardens were established to supply the cafe, La Trattoria. Lavender was planted out to provide quality materials for the creation of farm-made body lotions and creams, room mists and insecticides, and essential oil. La Trattoria eatery serves late breakfasts, morning teas, lunches, and afternoon teas. Produce is sourced locally and from its own gardens. The cafe is fully licensed with a good range of local wines, beers, and ciders, including its famous lavender champagne. Lavandula hosts three major festivals each year: Autumn Harvest (May); La Primavera (October); and Lavender Harvest (January).

Festivals & Events

From humble beginnings, ChillOut has grown to become the biggest and longest-running Country Queer Pride event in regional Australia, and the largest festival in Hepburn Shire. While events in the capital cities might be a lot bigger, ChillOut retains a relaxed, down-to-earth atmosphere with plenty of opportunities to let your hair down and has found a special place in the hearts of gay men and lesbians across Australia – and the world. ChillOut began as an annual festival of the Springs Connection, a local gay and lesbian business group in Daylesford. The first festival was staged in 1997 and each year the festival has been hosted over the Victorian Labour Day long weekend in March. ChillOut is a not-for-profit community-based organization dedicated to celebrating gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer pride within the unique setting of regional Victoria. We’re about building community, celebrating diversity, and sharing our love for this beautiful part of Australia while helping raise money every year for a dedicated worthy cause.
