Drinks & Nightlife

They have GREAT inexpensive food, including tasty vegan options. I usually get the burger with a side salad, omnomnom. Drinks are cheap and there are sometimes good metal shows. Go to the outdoor patio anytime, it's covered and heated. You can easily walk there from the house.

Food Scene

Hands down my favorite restaurant in town. Small plates change with the seasons, creative use of ingredients, great service. Nice private room for 10-16 people (must book ahead). Their drinks program is excellent. It's not too fussy and it's not hard to get a table, imho it's upscale neighborhood dining done extremely well. Good for a romantic date or special occasion, not so good for families. You should go here!

Parks & Nature

Idyllic city park. This place gets a lot of use, from families having BBQs to the wonderful public pool, to the picturesque tango dancing in the gazebos on Sunday nights in the summer... if its nice out, you ought to visit. Take a picnic and maybe a frisbee, walk through the historic rose gardens and swish your feet in the fountain. You can walk here from the house, it's about .5 mi.

Essentials

This is the closest grocery store, it's a five minute walk from the house. Reliable, safe choice for shopping, with a nice produce section. It's also across the street from a large drug store.

Shopping

I have spent so many happy hours here. I can't recommend it enough. Give yourself a few hours, and if you get hungry midway through take your books to the coffee shop inside the store. If it's gross out, this is a great option. Also the best place to get Portland swag! :D In addition, I recommend making it to Powell's because it is surrounded by some excellent shopping. Once you get there, find the area map with other stores to check out, or just start walking around and see what you find.
