Sightseeing
A stop at Walu Wugirriga (Mount Alexandra lookout), about 5km north of the Daintree River, provides breathtaking views of the coast including the Daintree River mouth, Snapper Island and Low Isles. It is also one of the few places in the Daintree where you may get mobile phone service!

Entertainment & Activities
The Daintree Discovery Centre is a world class interpretative facility that provides visitors with easy access to every level of the Daintree Rainforest; from the forest floor to the upper most reaches of the canopy via boardwalks, a canopy tower and aerial walkway. It allows visitors to experience plants and animals, as well as the history and Indigenous culture of our ancient rainforest environment, through self-guided tours or professionally guided group tours. It's the best place to start your Daintree adventure! It's just a 10-minute drive from Butterfly Bend Guest House. Why not tie it in with a walk along the Jindalba Boardwalk just 100 metres away.

I like the Mangrove Discovery Tour in search of the estuarine crocodile, as it is the only tour boat permitted in the Cape Tribulation section of the Daintree National Park. It has exclusive access to the intimate and scenic Cooper Creek. The host has been running these tours for 29 years. He has a very relaxed manner and imparts a wealth of knowledge during his commentary. And yes, while it is not guaranteed, I have seen crocodiles each time I have gone on this tour!

Snorkelling the pristine Great Barrier Reef off the Daintree Coast at Cape Tribulation is one of those memorable experiences you will take away from your holiday in Far North Queensland. It is a half day eco tour which visits two different snorkel destinations - Mackay and Undine Reefs - each with an array of coral species and marine life such as turtles, fish and stingrays. The Ocean Safari crew are amazing! They're extremely friendly and professional, and go out of their way to ensure you have a fantastic experience. Tours do need to be booked 48 hours in advance and this can be done online.

This tour ticks a lot of boxes. It's scenic, educational and above all fun! The guided tour takes you through the canopy of the rainforest via six platforms and seven zip lines, and there is even a human hamster wheel cable lift :). Staff are extremely friendly, informative and safety conscious. You're in good hands!

Parks & Nature
Located just 10-minutes drive from Butterfly Bend Guest House and next door to the Daintree Discovery Centre, the Jindalba (meaning ‘foot of the mountain’) boardwalk is a 650m easy walk exploring tropical lowland rainforest. Near the entrance of the Jindalba Boardwalk is the start of the Jindalba Circuit Track. This forest walk is 3km return and well marked but is stony in places and crosses rainforest creeks. A reasonable level of fitness is required.

The Marrdja (meaning ‘rainforest’ or ‘jungle’) boardwalk is an easy 1.2km loop which allows visitors to experience both rainforest and mangrove communities, without getting muddy. Along the walk visitors can learn about the plants found in each of these environments.

My favourite hike in the area as it blends two things I really enjoy - a challenge and the rainforest environment! This is a 7km steep and difficult trail and walkers need to be fit, self-reliant and well-prepared. The trail climbs from the coastal lowlands of Cape Tribulation, up the rainforest-clad ridge of Mount Sorrow to a lookout offering views of the beautiful Daintree coastline, Snapper Island and beyond. It has an elevation of 683m. Cross your fingers for a clear sky at the top. It's rare but a truly amazing view if you get lucky!

This is a gem and my favourite beach in the world! Just a short 400 metre stroll from Butterfly Bend Guest House, Cow Bay Beach features three secluded bays and is the perfect place to visit for a relaxing walk, picnic or to simply sit and watch the sun set over the ocean in the evening.

Food Scene
Just a 10-minute drive from Butterfly Bend Guest House, take the time to call in and experience family owned and operated Lync-Haven. It serves delicious food from its licenced café restaurant, and offers visitors a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with snakes, lizards, birds, wallabies and resident crocodile Doris. Take the opportunity to search for cassowaries with a stroll along the property's boardwalk which meanders through the rainforest and along a lovely fresh water creek. It's also a great place to pick up tourist information (maps, booklets and brochures) and make tour bookings.
