City/town information
This large town offers a great day out spent browsing the shops and galleries, enjoying great food and wine or picnicking and walking in one of its many beautiful green spaces. Dunorlan park is a 20-minute walk from the town centre and is perfect for picnics, walks and has huge open spaces. Calverley Gardens is central and a great location to grab a takeaway sourdough pizza from Estro and sit in the park. The Pantiles are home to a variety of independent shops and cafes, art galleries and eateries and is probably the most attractive and stylish part of the town – it has a particularly European feel. There is a car park on the corner of Major York’s Road perfect for accessing this particular area. There are many restaurants that we would recommend but just to list a few are Thackeray’s for a relaxed form of fine dining, and really high-quality local produce. Kitsu and Kiko both serve the most delicious sushi and noodles around, and Vittle and Swig serves great food from brunch right through to evening meals. At the opposite end of Tunbridge Wells is the Bicycle Bakery a great spot for sourdough bread, ‘cruffins’ and various baked goods. This area is called Camden Road and is also home to a great vegan café called The Plant Base.

A vibrant and arty city on the coast with a host of amazing restaurants, independent shops and galleries and great night life and music venues. It is the best place in the local area for shopping, from clothes to art to homeware. There are so many amazing restaurants but we would recommend 64 Degrees for a small scale fine dining experience with beautiful small plates. For eating outdoors and enjoying the weather the Lion and Lobster has a great roof terrace and lovely menu, or the Setting Sun pub, a little off the main streets but right at the top of Hanover offering great views over the city. For Vegan and Vegetarian food they have two high quality restaurants; Food for Friends and Terre a Terre, as well as the Longhouse Café for a great brunch. For music and comedy events Brighton Dome, Komedia and Concorde 2 are just some of the brilliant venues. Most of us here could talk about Brighton recommendations forever, so if you want more please just ask!

A typical market town with a small hilltop castle, it is a great afternoon out spend browsing some of the independent shops and the Lewes flea market for treasures. It is home to Harvey’s brewery, the oldest independent brewery in Sussex, and the first ever Bills restaurant opened in 2001 which is definitely worth a visit for breakfast (you may want to book online).

Eastbourne is a lovely seaside town, with a large beach and pier. It is similar to Brighton in style but much smaller and quieter, and a little less touristy. Beachy Head, Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters are all within easy reach of the town and offer great coastal walks. The town itself offers a good mix of shops, galleries, restaurants and theatres. In terms of food we would recommend Skylark a British café offering breakfast through to dinner with a good range of coffee, wines and cocktails in a pretty and trendy setting. There is also a lovely French restaurant on King Edwards parade called Bistro Pierre with a lovely view of the sea.

A smaller town on the Sussex coast that has a mix of beautiful architecture as well as a typical British seaside town. It is quite busy, and there isn’t a great deal of parking but The Old Town is worth a visit if you are interested in antiques, and small quirky independents. There are some nice pubs; The Crown and The Albion, and lots of small cafes and bars too. There is the cliff railway tour that offers great views across the beaches. Half Man Half Burger is a proper American style burger ‘restaurant’ that uses really good quality locally sourced produce with Vegan options available. There are also two great venues for natural and biodynamic wine and lovely food, The Farmyard and The Boatyard. Recently opened in St Leonards (just next to Hastings) is a street food venue called Heist, set in an old bank. It features local brewery The Three Legs, as well as the above two restaurants and some other great food outlets.

A great location for walking and taking in the spectacular views of the Sussex countryside. It was originally a deer hunting forest and is now the largest free public space in the South East. It is most well known for being the home of Winnie-the-Pooh. There are a wealth of local pubs and restaurants nearby particularly in Forest Row itself. On the outskirts of the forest you will find a little pub called The Hatch Inn, serving great food. If we are just going for a walk we often use the Black Hill car park as it is fairly quiet and not too far from Crowborough, parking is free.

The third highest point in the South Downs gives this location some of the best views across East Sussex. It is a beautiful spot for walking across the downs and then down the hill and into the village, where you will find a great lunch at The Bull pub. It also happens to be on the London to Brighton cycle route so you will often find lots of cyclists getting in some practice on the steep incline.

A small town with a couple of lovely antique shops and a brilliant wine shop and italian deli called Cuculo. It is also the location for the start of the Cuckoo cycling trail, and the end to the Sussex Diamond Way walk which passes right through the bottom of our road.
