Information about getting around in The Netherlands
Alphen aan den Rijn is a city in the middle of what we call the ‘green heart’ of the Netherlands. It has about 120.000 inhabitants which makes it a middle city with lots of restaurants and shops on walking distance of the house. The good thing about Alphen aan den Rijn is that the city is right in the middle of the big cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, The Hague, Gouda and Leiden. This makes it extremely easy to travel to these cities within about 30-45 minutes. About 2 blocks (5 mins walk) away from the house is a busstop which has busses to Schiphol airport, Amsterdam and Leiden. On a 5 minute walk from the house you’ll find the bus station from which bus nr. 470 or 870 will take you straight to Schiphol airport. From here you can continue your trip to any place in Amsterdam you would like to visit. In the bus you can pay a daycard with your credit- or debitcard. On 9292OV.nl you can find any schedule of public transportation. (Download the app for your phone for more convenience). If you want to go by car to Amterdam, take the N207 to Leimuiden and the the A4 direction Amsterdam. I recommend to park on a Park + Ride to save on parking cost. This is a parking on the entrance of the city. There are various, depending on what your final destination is. See https://www.amsterdam.nl/en/parking/park-ride/ for more info.

Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands and an amazing place to visit. Just walking around in the city gives you a great impression of Amsterdam life. Amsterdam is also the home of many interesting museums like the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, Hermitage museum, Anne Frank house, Madame Tussauds, Dam palace etc. Please note that now in most of the museums you have to buy your tickets in advance and reserve your timeslot. The Pijp, Jordaan & Oud-Zuid are neighbourhoods I recommend to stroll around. Also the Albert Cuypmarket is worth a visit. On the Ouderzijdse voorburgwal (when you come in by train 3 mins from the central station) and on the Stadhouderskade you’ll find boats that take you on a boat tour around the canals. If you have any specific questions or wishes to visit the city, please let me know. I love the city and can recommend you for sure great places to go depending on your wishes.

Rotterdam is the second biggest city of The Netherlands and known for it’s interesting architecture. After most of the city being bombed in the second worldwar, an interesting rebuilding of architects all over the world started.

The Hague is the city where the governement rules and has a very International vibe. The city center has beautiful squares where you can enjoy a coffee or lunch and interesting museums and other sightseeing attractions such as Madurodam (miniature Netherlands). The Hague is also on the coast, which makes it interesting to visit Scheveningen, the beach part of The Hague. It has a big boulevard with lots of restaurants, bars (like the pianobar) and other activities (like a sea aquarium). In the Scheveningen harbour you’ll find the best fresh fish and beachclubs (in summer season).
