Palermo Chico: No Other Place To Be

For a relaxing afternoon
The Tres de Febrero Park is the heart of the Bosques de Palermo. Filled with beautiful trees and a fenced rose flower park, this park is a sanctuary hidden in the middle of Palermo Chico's two busiest avenues. Either in need of exercising or breathing in fresh air, this park is perfect for a quick getaway from the weight of a big city like Buenos Aires. It's also got a strip of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and ice cream stands sitting beneath an elevated brick-built train rail. Stop for a coffee and a croissant at Le Pain Quotidien, a beer at Avant Garden, crêpes at Santa Crepa, or have a light colorful lunch at Möoi. Perfect to relax on a sunny, hot afternoon under the shade of a bouquet of trees!

If you're looking for fine dining and got the pocket to spare, Casa Cavia is the place to splurge at. Found inside a beautifully restored home, the restaurant is designed around a gorgeous courtyard. The dishes are all delicious, though on the small and (most definitely) expensive side. Should you not be in the mood for dinner, this place has an elegant bar with special cocktails worth the try. Book your reservation a couple of hours in advance.

Found on the Costanera strip along with other good restaurants like Gardiner, Happening is one of my steakhouses in Buenos Aires. The service and food are both very high quality. You'll be fine dining for sure. Reservation is recommended.

Found a bit far from Palermo Chico, Nueva Casa Japonesa is perhaps the most authentic and delicious Japanese restaurant for genuine ramen or other Japanese delicacies. The place itself also feels like it could be realistically found in Tokyo without trying too hard. If you're in need of good comfort food during a rainy day this place is a very good choice.

A local favorite- it doesn't get more Palermo Chico than this. This place is nothing special: just your local restaurant with consistently good food and service. Best if seating outside with comforting views of Av. Libertador and its Parisian vibes. If you're looking for a casual place to eat, this is a must go. Every local would agree.

If looking for a cozy place to have your morning coffee and medialunas, Caffe Tabac is just right. Seated on Av. Libertador, this cafe is a local's favourite. A perfect way to start your morning.

Looking for delicious armenian food? Sarkis is the place. With everything you may possibly imagine, Sarkis has a phenomenal reputation for authentic Middle Eastern food. Be aware that their waiting periods are excessively long and people do line up early. Consider buying pick up to skip the line.

Ranked within the top 50 best steakhouses in the world, Don Julio has gone from being your local little BBQ to an upscale (expensive) big-name player. Greeted with champagne and offered an extensive selection of wines, you won't be short of drinks- nor will the meat be an issue! Be sure to order asado and bife de chorizo- my two favourite cuts :)

Nightlife
Looking for your hidden speakeasy but having a hard time finding it? Well, that's because it really is hidden that well! Frank's is not only a well-known bar for its strong selection of cocktails and hors-d'oeuvres, but its password-needed entrance will amaze anyone walking through. Built to simulate a bar during the American Prohibition Era, Frank's has got that rich elegant interior a New York speakeasy is all about. Just be wary that you must know the password in order to be allowed in! You'll be able to deduce it from their Instagram account- they often have clues (and they're not the hardest).

Hidden behind a cute flower shop, Floreria Atlántico is an iconic, world-renowned Argentine must-visit speakeasy perfect for couples (or small groups). Located on the beautiful street of Arroyo in Retiro, the bar is hidden behind a big fridge-looking door that takes you downstairs to the tavern-like hideout where candles, music, and loud voices fill the space with joy and intimacy. Be aware that it is difficult to get a table (especially for large groups) given the small size of the bar, so reserve if you can or consider visiting a bit earlier.

The Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires is ironically located on Av. Figueroa Alcorta between the Palacio Alcorta and the shopping mall Paseo Alcorta. Definitely worth a visit if interested in Latin American art of any and all kind.

Rich with centuries-old paintings and sculptures, the MNBA is a national treasure worth checking out. Surrounded by a beautiful park and just streets away from the Floralis Generica (the big flower) and a strip of restaurants and bars on Av. Figueroa Alcorta, try visiting the museum and then heading for an Aperol Spritz!
