Angelokastro is one of the most important Byzantine castles in Greece. It is located on the island of Corfu at the summit of the highest peak of the island's coast on the northwest coast near Paleokastritsa and on the edge of the summit of the steep slope.
The origin of his name is not entirely clear, some historians say that in 1214 Michael I the Komninos, despot of Epirus, captured Corfu and after his death, Michael II Komnenos, fortified the area by building the castle and Gave him the name of his father: Angelokastro.Today the castle, although mistaken, is also called the Castle of Archangel Michael.

It is separated from the old fortress and from the old harbor of the city of Corfu with a narrow waterway . From the old harbor there is regular boat transport to the island during the summer . The island is uninhabited today, but it was a penitentiary site for minors in the past and a place of rural prisons.
