We love the bar and sitting out on the patio. Burgers are good. Grilled artichoke is to die for, and calimari is also fabulous. But nothing tops their clam chowder!

Parks & Nature
Experience the California Redwoods in this beautiful state park. For those less athletically inclined there is a nice flat circle walk featuring stunning trees. They also have rangers nearby who are happy to regale you with fun facts about our gigantic red friends. The railroad is there as well, and will take you all the way into the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. This is a huge hit with the little ones, and a "do not miss" experience. Picnic area and some concessions as well.

Wow! Beyond gorgeous. Some good hiking - especially a particularly grueling one that will take you all the way to the coast - but not for the faint of heart. Just visiting the park is a great day trip. Take a picnic lunch.

21600 Big Basin WayWow! Beyond gorgeous. Some good hiking - especially a particularly grueling one that will take you all the way to the coast - but not for the faint of heart. Just visiting the park is a great day trip. Take a picnic lunch.

The facility itself is impressive, but its exhibits are without equal, and should not be missed if you are newly visiting the area.
Iconic. Must see. Free to go and hang out. Cost to ride, and if you are a family that will spend several hours, the wristbands are worth the money. The Giant Dipper is a historic wooden roller coaster, and is still a fabulous ride!

Rent a bicycle and pedal leisurely down the trails following the coast of Monterey. Afterwards, stop off in the charming town of Pacific Grove for a bite of food at one of the many fun restaurants, and then do a little shopping, all in local boutiques and speciality shops.

About 15 minutes north of Santa Cruz on Hwy 1 is Davenport. Having raised it's population recently to more than 10 people, it consists of a small neighborhood behind a restaurant, bakery, bar and some nearby wineries. Fun! And a pretty drive for a smaller trip and something a bit different.
