Sightseeing

Beautiful street in the centre of Stavanger with colorful wooden houses. Great place to have a coffee or beer at the many pubs (I recommend Bøker&Børst or Hanekam). In the summer many small festivals are arranged here.

The church was built in two parts. The oldest part is in roman style built in the 1100s, while the other part is built in gothic style in the 1500s. The building is a real gem in the centre of Stavanger.

Pulpit Rock or Preikestolen in Norwegian is the most beautiful lookout in the vicinity. Just a 40 minute drive from Stavanger, but you can also take a bus and ferry. The walk up is about 2 and a half hours (1,5h - 2h if you are in very good physical condition), but beautiful and a good workout. You will never forget the view. The walk down takes only about 45 minutes.

For those who love a hike, here you can climb 4444 steps to the top. And on the bottom is a tiny historical town. You can sleep over a night and enjoy the peace and nature.

If you love the arts as well as music, you have to visit Tou. Once an old factory, it has been restored and is full of studios, art galleries, scenes, concerts, and even a bar and café. Every now and then it has music festivals, art festivals, markets and other happenings. It's surrounded by a lovely park and sits in the new urban area of Stavanger - ØST.

This is the absolute best vegan restaurant, where you will have an amazing culinary experience whether you're a vegan or love meat. Wonderful atmosphere and chefs that truly love their work and carefully make the most excellent meals. The wines are amazing and perfect for each dish. And the prices are not too high. I highly recommend it.

Probably one of the most charming cafes in the city, with a jazzy 1920s atmosphere. The couple who own it have created a beautiful interior and a wonderful menu to choose from. Wonderful place for a coffee or a glass of wine away from the buzz of the city centre and just next to Fargegaten (the colorful street). They have bohemian parties from time to time as well as 1920s parties.

Another lovely gem, and the most popular park in Stavanger is Mosvatnet. There's also a museum here. The park is rich in bird life and greenery, and also has an outside pool and sauna (Gamlingen). It's a 20 minute walk from our house.
