Stone Pier Café – is nice for an outdoor coffee or sandwich. Turn left out of the driveway & walk towards the Fort….you can drop down some steps to get there. You can return through the harbour to make it a circular trip.

Fantastic sharing platters of cheese & meats on the Harbour front. With a large selection of wine & gins, this one is for the adults!

Established in 1937 by Fioravanti Figliolini. Their ice cream is homemade, with love on the premises, following a closely guarded family recipe. Ice cream is made in small batches, a maximum of 2 or 3 of our flavours a day. This means that you can try a different one of our 20 flavours each time you visit.

Things to see

This is so close you can make a coffee & take it out to sit on one of the benches. A great view over to Portland. This is not really a beach for playing as its small & pebbly but if youre brave enough you can swim directly off the steps.

Full of history & well worth a wander. You can use it as a circular walk past the Nothe Cafe (scones/ice creams etc) & back to the Harbour through the Gardens

18 mile stretch of shingle beach. At its starting point where it ajoins Portland to the mainland you can park at the Chesil Car Park & spend many hours watching the kite surfers (be warned it is windy)

One of Dorset most iconic landmarks. Access to the pebble and shingle beach is on foot via a path and steps over the hill from Lulworth Cove or down from the Car Park (charges apply) which is located on the cliff top at Durdle Door Holiday Park. There is a 15 minute walk along a steep downhill path, plus a further 143 steps down onto the beach (trainers or walking boots are needed for this walk, flipflops are not recommended).

These are incredible castle ruins with breathtaking views across Purbeck - 23 miles from the house. Or consider linking this with a trip on the Swanage Steam Railway

Things To Do

There is plenty to see & do in & around the Old Harbour. You'll find loads of pubs & restaurants, or a bench to eat your fish & chips. You can go crabbing just outside the Old Rooms too.

Reputedly the best beach for fossil hunting. You can join a guided fossil walk or go it alone! Its shingle & dog friendly, and although its considered safe beware as there is no lifeguard on duty

Abbotsbury Swannery is the only place in the world where you are able to walk through the heart of a colony of nesting Mute Swans. A visit to this beautiful and tranquil place is one of the most popular things to do in Dorset. Located on the dramatic Dorset Coast, this unique natural wildlife habitat is spread over a site of some 25 acres and is home to the only managed colony of free-flying mute swans in the world. The 600-year-old swannery is a natural history paradise. The Swannery was established by Benedictine Monks who built a monastery at Abbotsbury in the 1940s. During the nesting and hatching period (end May to end June), it is possible to be standing next to hatching eggs and if you’re very lucky, you may even witness a cygnet being born right before your eyes. Visitors to the Swannery can help hand feed over 600 swans at 12.00 noon and 4.00pm daily, which is an experience not to be missed. The accompanying talk from the swanherd provides an engaging and informative insight into these graceful birds.
