Ski, snowboard, snow tube

Not a huge mountain like the ones in the west but definitely a fun place to scratch the itch if you haven’t been skiing or snowboarding in awhile they also offer snow tubing which is a blast for anyone who doesn’t ski, oh and the place is lit,,, not just lit like awesome and fun, it’s literally illuminated so you can ski at night!

Food scene

Highly recommended and a short walk from the shanty, this historic building was built with bricks and recycled building materials from the 1904 worlds fair,,, beautiful patio, full bar and great food,,, my favorites are the brew bites and the white pizza!

I can’t choose a favorite between this place and the brew house, literally both are equally awesome with consistent great food every time I’ve been, I am a bit of a fan of the fact this is also a local live music venue and that it’s in walking distance to the shanty, the bbq is great the burgers are great and the sides are too, believe it or not my absolute favorite thing to eat at brown jerrys is simply the Mac and cheese

The most unique and interesting atmosphere of any bar and grill I’ve ever been to, located at the historic British themed Cheshire inn this tavern has perfectly dim lighting, decorated with antiques designed to make it feel like you are in the den of a British castle, and they nailed it, if you are close to forest park, the museums the delmar loop you are very close to this place and I would bet you never forget it, it is a very small place with no seating for a big group and a small menu, very good burgers and fries !

There are many Greek restaurants in St. Louis but if you want authentic and historic, go to Olympia ! And get saganaki ! The light it on fire at your table and put it out with a lemon !

Hiking, botany

This is a beautiful place to visit if you like flowers, beautiful gardens and nature in general, and if you like to hike I would pack a picnic and make a day of it, originally known as shaws arboretum this was Henry Shaw’s house in the country while Missouri botanical gardens was his house in St. Louis, the place is so beautiful you will most likely see someone having engagement / prom / homecoming photos taken professionally. Fun fact, this is where I was supposed to get married 22 years ago but it got rained out and had we to execute the backup plan.

This is a little known gem in our area,,, these are miniature scale real coal fired steam trains that you can ride on, it’s only open in the fall and the hours are limited so research and call before going but if you are interested in trains and railroad history,,, especially if you have kids, this is a must see ! This is also located at the Al foster trailhead and the train line you will be riding on runs through some of St. Louis’s best mountain biking trails.
