Plymouth (an hours drive or 40 minutes train from Totnes, which is a 20 min drive from the house) has just opened ‘the box museum and art gallery’ which is part of a major £40 million redevelopment scheme for the city’s regeneration. The city’s hoe area has great views for walks by the sea and leads down to the Barbican area which is full of restaurants and bars situated next to the famous Mayflower steps where the pilgrims set sail for America. The Royal William yard is also an incredible place for dining by the sea with views over to Cornwall. When the weather is good, it is possible to catch a small fishing boat ferry from here over to the Cornish fishing village of Cawsand which is a beautiful charming little village to explore.

Exeter is a charming city to walk around; from the town centre with its majestic Cathedral and Cathedral Green surrounded by Cafes, restaurants and upscale bars, to Exeter quay with lively restaurants and bars and a starting point for some picturesque walks along the river with energetic River sports going alongside. It’s also great for shopping and has a mixture of independent boutiques, large High Street stores, museums, galleries and it has an attractively designed pedestrianised shopping quarter and high end department stores. Drive or take the regular direct train from Paignton which both take approx 40 mins.

Great walks which take you all the way to Brixham. Lovely alfresco pubs and dining options as well as watersports. Backs onto a beautiful park with boating lake. Perfect for whiling away the afternoon whatever the weather.
