Fantastic fish restaurants and views of the sea.
A very old part of the city initially immigrants from Smyrna arrived and lived here. You will find old and very interesting buildings. My grandfather lived here and I can assure you it is super interesting if you are into photography.

A beautiful open air summer cinema. It plays blockbuster and old movies and it's located right by the beach. After a movie you can go for a drink at the bar and enjoy the sea and the views.

A fantastic museum for those interested in naval or Greek history during and mostly after World War II. This is a ship, in order to fully visit all allowed areas you need to be dressed accordingly (meaning no high heels etc).

Abandoned factory
Drapetsona is a district located 1.5km from the Piraeus city center and 10km from Athens city center. Since the 19th century the district has become a significant industrial area for the Port of Piraeus, especially for port facilities like ship yards but consequently other industries grew like a fertilizer factory, a plaster factory and a cement factory. Now there are plans for redeveloping 64 hectares of the Drapetsona seafront for culture, tourism and sea sport faculties. For the last couple of years the premises of a fertilizer factory have been turned into a park with an outdoor stage for events.
Every summer a yearly festival takes place (Festival by the Sea) hosting numerous concerts and theatrical productions for free. The park overlooks the port and the sea and you can count all the large cruisers coming into the port and watch an eery sunset behind the container and cranes. There is also loads of open space here, perfect for playing with kids, cycling, skating or even flying kites and playing basketball. The districts are of Piraeus have always lacked open public space as well as green parks so this redevelopment will be an urban life changer for many of its nearby residents.

Just 5 mins walk from the house a public beach. Very nice views but it's a bit rocky and crowded during the summer. Still it's absolutely free and right next to the Marina sea restaurants.

The Planetarium shows are very spectacular. It worths to visit at least one of them. And the Science and Technology center is very interesting, all exhibits are very interesting even for adults.

Hidden for years on the private property of an old fertiliser plant in Drapetsona, this small, newly discovered archaeological site was only recently opened to the public. It is believed by many to be the actual tomb of Themistocles, who led the ancient Athenians to victory over the Persians at Salamis.
Plans are afoot to install a monument to honour this great leader.

Coffee on the road
A good way to enjoy a coffee and and see the city is to buy from one of the many coffee-on-the-go places that offer very high quality coffee for about 2 euros. The 2 brands I usually prefer are Coffee Island and Coffee Lab. You will find these places all over Athens.

Use an app to find a taxi
Taxis are all over town. The best way to find one is through an app called Beat. It's the Uber of Greece. You can find a taxi through the app and it will also give you and approximation of the cost of your trip. You can also pay via credit card from inside the app. I use it all the time.

You can find all kinds of old, retro and weird things. You will find the market near the train station and is open every Sunday from early morning.

Safety and getting around
Pireas is generally very safe. You can walk anytime of the day and you will find shops and people. You do need to apply common logic and watch your personal belongings especially near the port and the train station but in general I've lived here all my life and never felt even the slightest fear going out any time of the day.
