You'll be hard-pressed to find a more impressive lakeside property than this 5-bed 2-bath cottage on Whitefish Lake! Tucked into the lush greenery of a peaceful neighborhood, the rustic appearance of this home with its expansive deck space is an inviting sight. Your group of up to 11 can experience the best of lakefront living in this rustic yet modern home, complete with a private bunkhouse.
While the exterior of this home may paint the picture of a classic cottage, the interiors of both the main cottage and bunkhouse are newly remodeled, modern and tastefully decorated with lots of places to sleep. When you enter the main cottage, you are greeted with space, sunlight, and a view straight out onto the water of Whitefish Lake. The kitchen is open and bright with a large island and breakfast bar, and is fully-equipped with all of the cooking tools and appliances needed to whip up your family's favorite meals.
Relax in the spacious living room, where you will find a 50" flat screen TV with Apple TV, board games and comfortable seating for your whole party. It might be hard to stay inside too long with the striking view of the backyard, dock, and lake right outside, but this cozy space is the perfect retreat after a day of fun in the sun. The main unit features 3 charming bedrooms and 1 bathroom, with room to sleep 7 comfortably on 1 full-sized bed, 2 twins, and a set of twin bunks complete with a trundle.
Just outside of the main cottage, you will find the separate bunkhouse. Connected by a deck so that diverse groups can enjoy their vacation time together while also being able to enjoy some alone time, the bunkhouse is just as impressive as the main cottage. 4 people can sleep comfortably in the 2 bedrooms, featuring one queen-sized bed and 2 twins. With its own fully-equipped kitchenette, full bathroom and well-decorated living area that boasts a similar 40" flat screen TV and board game set up to the one in the main unit, the bunkhouse is a perfect, private place to unwind.
Despite the 2,500 square feet of immaculate indoor space, the backyard and outdoor areas are a truly unique highlight of this property. On Whitefish Lake, part of the Rideau Canal system which flows between Ottawa and Kingston Ontario, the cottage has an excellent beach and a large dock for swimming, boating, fishing and enjoying the spectacular view. In the summer you can see the jagged outline of the lake and cottages on the shores around, with lots of foliage and rocky shores nearby. Fall is full of color as winter approaches - with the lake freezing over for snowmobiles, ice fishing, skiing, and occasionally clear ice for skating.
Spend warm afternoons out on one of the home's many decks, or walk down to the beach area to cool off or hang your legs off of the deck to dangle your toes in the fresh Ontario water. There are even 2 kayaks, a paddle boat and a canoe available to explore the lake! In the evenings, gather around the fire pit to roast marshmallows and tell stories, or just listen to the echoes of the crackling fire as they skip across the water. It's cottage country, and neighbors are not far away, but distant enough so there is plenty of privacy to enjoy a quiet stay at the lake. Be sure to ask the owners about the availability of a windsurfer, rent a fishing or pontoon boat in Seeley's Bay or bring your own!
Though being at the lake is likely all you will want to do, about half an hour away is the historic city of Kingston, Ontario, with Old Fort Henry, shopping, theaters and all sorts of dining opportunities! Westport is a quaint village a half hour the opposite direction with small shops owned by artisans and stocked with their crafts. And water sports, don't forget the water sports! Opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, skiing, and, pretty much anything else that you can do on the water are plentiful in this area.
There are also golf courses close by, including a small 9-hole course about 7-minutes drive, and some of Eastern Ontario's finest within an hour from home base. In winter time, cross country skiing and snowmobiling are popular, and the lake is great for fishing in all seasons. The locks at Jones Falls at the northern end of the lake are scenic and an engineering marvel. Boats of all sizes are transported up and down four levels throughout each summer day, which is something kids and adults alike will enjoy watching! Indoors or outdoors, bunkhouse or main cabin, on land or on water, this incredible cottage is the ultimate place for your lakefront retreat!
