Arasy is a house positioned on a lush tropical hillside with a wondrous panorama of sea, sky and forest. To north and south palm fringed white sand beaches stretch off into the distance and a network of coral reefs turn the ocean into a painters palette of turquoise, blues and aquamarines.
The house is designed to take full advantage of the view and is built on two levels each one with a unique aspect. It’s elevated position also gives it the advantage of a constant gentle breeze, essential during the hot summer days and nights in keeping the house fresh and aired. Arasy’s position above the forest canopy brings the outdoors in and it’s generous sliding doors and windows brings the indoors out. Tropical hard wood verandas rather than corridors connect the rooms, and the kitchen and sitting room are divided by a decked area through which an ancient mangaba tree grows, perfuming the air with it’s sweet scented fruit and flowers. Built around the trunk of the mangaba is a hard wood table seating up to eight and offering a wonderful outside dining experience
The house sits in the middle of a hillside garden filled with flowers and trees giving a welcome relief from the sun.
The price of the house includes a part time cleaner who takes care of the house and a gardener. For an extra fee we can organise 2 full time housekeepers who will can also prepare the most delicious organic bahian breakfasts, lunches and dinners. We can also organise for you to have a full take caretaker who will deliver all your food requests during your stay and help organise your outings and take you on guided trips.
Arasy is built on two levels. The lower level has a large kitchen/ dining room with seating for eight and is fully equipped with hobs, oven, fridge/freezer, UV filtered drinking water, Vitamix blender and everything else you need to prepare a feast or just a snack. Across the deck from the kitchen is the sitting room with a small library, lounge furniture built from recycled boat wood and a projector and screen for watching films in the evening. The lower level also has a bathroom with toilet and sink and a laundry room.
A wooden stairs takes you upstairs to the second level where the bedrooms are located. The master bedroom has a super king size double bed, antique wardrobe, chest and clothes hanging area as well as a sofa-bed. Adjacent is an en suite bathroom with shower, loo and b’day. Next to this are two more bedrooms – both with a queen size double bed. Both have ensuite bathrooms equipped with a shower, toilet and sink. Behind the house is an extra room - built entirely of recycled boat wood, with its own bathroom also. All rooms have air conditioning
The main house can sleep 8 adults plus 2 young children or babies.
We lived in this house for 5 years with our three children and so we know how to make sure you have a truly magical experience.
We have two staff working at the house. Rocky the gardener and caretaker, and Lucineide the housekeeper. Their primary job is to look after the house and garden, but if you would like a full hotel service we can offer this for R$350 per day for groups os 2 to 4 people and R$500 per day for groups of 5 to 10 people. This includes; a food delivery service from Roque (he will buy and deliver groceries for you), a full Bahian breakfast served every morning by Lucineide (coffee, fresh fruit, cake, tapioca, juice, eggs, fresh bread...) full cleaning service including washing dishes and doing laundry - until 12pm. We highly recommend this service as it will help make your stay truly magical.
Arasy is located just outside the village of Moreré on the island of Boipeba in Bahia, Brazil. Boipeba island is part of the municipality of Cairu, an archipelago of 32 islands scattered throughout an area of protected coastal mangrove. The island measures twelve kilometers long by five wide and despite its small size has a rich and varied natural heritage including Atlantic rainforest, mangrove forest and dry sandy plains where the iconic mangaba trees grow. The village of Moreré on the Atlantic side of the island is situated on perhaps the most beautiful coastal area of Boipeba. Three palm fringed beaches offer an almost continuous five kilometres of white sand and blue sea, all ringed by a corral reef, rich in sea life and perfect for diving and snorkeling. Arasy sits on a hillside overlooking the splendor of this natural paradise.
Exploring on foot
The island is 12km by 5km and there is good trekking along the beaches and sandy roads that connect the villages as well as numerous trails that crisscross the island and require a local guide.
We own a horse called “Trovao” (lightning in Portuguese) though his name doesn’t belie his gentle nature! Trovao is available for solo trips or as an aid on group treks. Rocky who looks after him also has a mule with “sambura” (wicker panniers) which is ideal for carrying up to 3 children if you wish to make a long family hike.
Swimming, snorkeling, diving and spear fishing
Moreré is ideal for swimming. At high tide you have a large area inside the reef with an average depth of 1.5m and a gentle incline. It’s perfect for adults and children alike. At low tide you can walk to the reef where large pools allow a wonderful dip and the chance to snorkel and see multicoloured coral fish. For even better snorkeling you can hire a canoe and visit the “piscinas naturais” (natural reef pools) at Bainema or Castellhanos.
Beyond the reef is fantastic for diving and spear fishing. The sea is rich in barracuda and a host of other fish and in summer the water is crystal clear.
Surfing, sailing and boating
There are numerous options for boat hire. Paddle boards are available for rent on the main beach of Moreré. The beach of Bainema offers great surfing and we have two surfboards - long wide boards which are ideal for adults who are not experts and also for children starting out.
There are still many traditional Bahian canoes in Moreré and a number that have sails. We highly recommend hiring one and sailing (with a local!) to the Bainema pools. It’s a magical experience.
Speedboats are available for small local trips as well as longer journeys to Morro de Sao Paolo or Barra Grande to the south.
