“In the oak-filled woodland of Lainzer Tiergarten, you’ll find snuffling wild boars, giant-horned goats, mischievous squirrels and serene deer freely roaming the grassy meadows and mossy forest floors. The gardens’ walking trails and wide open heaths are framed with fragrant cherry trees and the humming drill of woodpeckers in the warmer months. Come winter, cross-country skiing and near-silent restorative treks across snow-encrusted trails are possible. Hidden within the former hunting ground is Princess Sisi’s Hermesvilla, a marble mini-palace famously gifted to her by Franz Joseph I in 1881. Stop in for a queenly coffee and cake on the terrace.”

“One of the best parks in vienna which has something to offer for everyone. There are fitness devices, three table tennis tables, a playground for kids, a basket ball court, an area for dogs and lots of green area to relax. Prefere going there in autumn or summer! A lovely park for a stroll. We come here every morning if we can to the playgrounds as we live near here. The kids love it, especially the sand area and the open grass area to run. Do note that there are no toilets though. A very nice park with wonderful playgrounds.”

“Have coffee in a greenhouse! Part of the huge Hofburg complex in the heart of the city is an Art Nouveau greenhouse – the Palmenhouse. It is the former home of Habsburg royal family that now houses the residence of Austria’s President and the Prime Minister’s office. And the Butterflyhouse. Once used by the emperor as a place of relaxation, it contains the Schmetterlinghouse (Butterflyhouse). It is a beautiful display of hundreds of butterfly species living in a large tropical rainforest setting. ”

“We visited twice on the same day. The first visit was with our tour group and there was just enough time to see the Palace and a bit of the gardens, but not time for the walk up the hill to Gloriette. The view of Vienna from up there is amazing and I am glad we returned for this. There are paved walkways and one can just walk on the grass, but it is steep going. The large gardens are free. Admission is charged to the zoo. The gardens themselves are well cared for and the blooming plants change as the seasons do. This is best seen on a nice dry day, as there is much walking. There is a restaurant near the zoo, another in the front courtyard of the palace, and a snack and gift shop inside the ”
