“PARK You can experience an expedition to Haka Game Park for several hours, with a scrummy packed picnic, plenty to drink, hats and sun screen, binoculars, bird, animal and other reference books if you have them (if not it’s time you did!), cameras, suitable shoes and clothes for exploring and bush-whacking adventures, and discover this wonderful wilderness on the edge of the city. Open 6 am to 6 pm, you pay per person and a little more for your car. To access it, drive out of town on Samora Machel Ave which becomes Mutare Road. Over the roundabout at the intersection of Harare Drive and Mutare Road, just after Danhiko School, turn left into the Cleveland Dam recreational area and soon, you’ll spot the Haka entrance gate at left with its little thatched booth. Now, you can enjoy this place in so many ways and it will depend on the ages of the children involved. You can do a game drive on its well developed network of dirt roads; it is home to giraffe, wildebeest, eland, impala, zebra, duiker, bushpig, civet, jackal, and more, plus countless bird species. You can walk, rock scramble, mountain bike, horse ride, picnic and braai. There are braai sites and you can buy wood and even ice at the entrance gate. The kids will love to explore this place and can learn and enjoy birds and animals while there, too. There are also some excellent San rock paintings. The beauty of Haka is you can explore it to your heart’s content, unaccompanied, and it’s only 10 km for the city centre. ”

“Wild Is Life is a elephant sanctuary and rehabilitation centre. The work that they carry out is wonderful and if you book and visit you get a chance to hear their story, interact with some of the animals in a very nice and respectful way for the animals. Enjoying a cup of tea and cake in the Boma area is a real treat aswell. Booking is essential and only small groups of people are taken. Its well worth it. ”
