Specialist cycling paths also exist in the area both for lovers of this sport and as a means to explore. “Take a windy steep drive up to Kantara Castle which served as a watch tower for Pirate raids and during it's long history was taken by Richard the Lionheart who subsequently sold it to the Knights Templar. The stunning coastal path and through Kaplica village leads to the Castle and on a clear day the drive will be worth it where you can take in the most stunning panoramic views. ”

“Big variety of tasty pastry, sweets, a good quality lunch buffet (take away or eat there), coffee bar and reasonable prices. It is 3 minutes by car from home (please note that part of Kennedy Avenue is actually renamed to Kapparis Avenue years back. Although both names appear on maps it is actually one certain street) ”

“A beautiful sandy beach that is voted as one of the best 25 beaches in Europe by Trip Advisor's Traveller's Choice. Can easily get there with bus 102 from the Bus Stop situated about 100 m from Villa Sofi. Get there early in the morning as it gets very busy. We also love to go there after 5.00pm and stay until late to enjoy the sunset while swimming.”

While nominally part of the Famagusta District, it has been under the de facto control of Northern Cyprus since the partition of the island in 1974. Rizokarpaso is one of the largest towns on the peninsula. Soil near the town consists of terra fusca which is very fertile. Local crops include carob, cotton, tobacco, and grain. The town's surroundings are famous as the wildest and one of the most unspoilt parts of the island.
