“Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in California. Five hundred miles of dirt roads, 12 wilderness areas and many miles of hiking trails provide visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to experience the wonders of the California Desert. The park is named for Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and the Spanish word borrego, or bighorn sheep. The park features washes, wildflowers, palm groves, cacti, and sweeping vistas. Visitors may also have the chance to see roadrunners, golden eagles, kit foxes, mule deer, and bighorn sheep as well as iguanas, chuckwallas, and the red diamond rattlesnake. Listening devices for the hearing impaired are available in the visitor center.”

“The wildflower season in Anza-Borrego is the best time of the year to visit that park. When you get to the visitor center at Borrego Springs, they can tell you the latest wildflower "sightings" and where good spots are to view the flowers. Study a guide of the park in advance, because it is a large park and there is a lot to see. Palm Canyon, the "pumpkin patch," Font's Point and the Borrego Badlands are some of the possible sights to see in that park. Some of the locations require a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get to but most commonly visited areas do not. Resist the temptation to go all the way to the Salton Sea, as it is a disappointment even if you have no expectations. If your trip is to be in the summer, be aware that it gets very hot in Anza-Borrego in the summer months, and that is also a time when many bugs are flying around in the air and there are rattlesnakes around on hot nights. Right now and the next few weeks is the best time to visit there as none of those problems will be there, and the wildflowers will be there. Most people I have taken to Julian have been completely charmed by it, as it is an authentic 100-year-old gold mining town that is now an apple growing area. You can take tours of the old mines and there is a small train ride. ”

“The drive on the way here is beautiful and then going and seeing these canyons is amazing. It’s safe for the whole family and yet the short hike offer some amazing slot canyon views. *** special note it would require you to be able to walk at least 2 miles total and on up and down terrain.*** NOTICE - if you are prone to claustrophobia take it slowly I know that you can turn around at any time. Take sunscreen and a bottle of water for each person in your party.”

“This is about an hour out of San Diego, and if you are here in the winter there is snow. It is a great place for hiking of all levels.”

“Enjoy outdoor pool and indoor jacuzzi from natural hot springs. You can pay for the day, hike the Moonlight trail and relax at the jacuzzi afterward. My favorite!”
