“Bakers & Roasters is definitely the best breakfast & lunch place of Amsterdam. The line with waiting people speaks for itself. Toast, cerials, eggs, pancakes and fruits, smoothies, coffee's and latte's. The best way to start the day. 1e Jacob van Campenstraat near Marie Heinekensquare.”

Cheery neighborhood restaurant serving comfort classics
“There's a reason this restaurant is always filled to the brink, and you'll quickly find out when you book a table here. It's not only because their 5 course meal is only 50 euros. The atmosphere is always buzzing. And the creative chef has a long track record of pleasing his recurring customers with his ever changing menu. And most importantly, they know their wines. ”

“With shops offering enough pumps, boots, spike heels, designer clothes, cosmetics, suitcases and specialty foods to satisfy the fussiest shopper, Leidsestraat attracts droves of tourists, locals and fashionistas. Whether you're searching for high style, camp shoes, Dutch cheese or soft drugs, you're likely to find what you're looking for in the boutiques, high-end department stores, specialty shops and coffeeshops on this busy passenger byway and the small streets shooting off from it.”

“There is a lot to see and do in Amsterdam, all depending on your taste. If we were in the neighborhood, you could run into us and other locals at the small shopping center “Brazilië” at Oostelijke Handelskade (5 min walk). It has a Jumbo supermarket (cheaper), Albert Heijn supermarket (more expensive and fancier), Etos and Kruidvat drugstores, butcher, bakery (meh, Albert Heijn is better), liquor store, etc. o Tip 1: try some great Dutch herring, the famous street snack, at the fish store right here. Or get their also good “kibbeling” (fried cod) with sauce. o Tip 2: the Dutch street snack is of course french fries, to be bought at a snack bar. The snack bar “Kwalitaria” in the shopping center is the real deal. Make sure to get mayonaise on your fries, or peanut sauce. OR BOTH. Seriously. It’s called ‘patat oorlog’ (war fries) and comes with sprinkled raw onion (optional).”

“Hard to put this one into a category, since it is basically everything. Good for some typically dutch food like a stroopwafel and great coffee places all around. Also possibly the best place to get some good deals on fruit, veg, fish and nuts. Generally something to see, walk around, hear market people yell in Dutch and meet all kinds of people and you can buy less standard souvenirs as well.”

“an excellent organic farmers market held on Saturdays at the Nordermarkt from 09h - 16h. The wild mushroom stall is wonderful and Le Perron sells great bread. The place to go for picnic supplies before you hire a boat and picnic on the canals”
