Retreat at Historic Hillwood - a large room

Hillwood is a grand old house that has been lovingly restored over the last 20 years. Native trees & shrubs have been planted on the extensive grounds so it is a favourite place for birds, including tui, keruru, weka and Californian Quails. Plenty of different spaces to relax, including on the front verandah, which is an afternoon suntrap, not far from the pool. This historic house has always been a private home (i.e. not previously commercial B&B) so it is a hidden gem to be discovered.
お部屋
A large private bedroom upstairs, at the front of the house, overlooking an green grounds surrounding the house. This room has a comfortable California king bed, which can be set up as twin (2 x king singles) if required - please let me know well in advance. An additional king single can be set up for a third guest.
A big bathroom is next door to the bedroom. It has a beautiful a clawfoot bathtub, a separate shower, a sink and a toilet. If there are no one else staying, you are likely to have this bathroom as yours alone (i.e. we don't use this bathroom).
GROUP TRAVEL: Please see my other listing if you are interested in booking adjacent rooms. Happy to have the rooms booked for a group of up to 6 guests.

Inside, guests can relax in the ballroom (used as lounge) in front of a log burner. The library is adjacent to the ballroom and you are welcome to pick a book or two to read or make use of any board games you fancy. You are welcome to use our kitchen and laundry. Please note that these spaces are shared with us (though we hardly use the ballroom or the library ourselves).
Outside, enjoy the sunny verandah - perfect of reading a book in the afternoon. Feel free to have a walk around the garden, the orchard or explore the woodlands. There is also a great outdoor table next to the fig tree - a great spot for outdoor dining.

This is primarily a country home so please expect some rural quirks.
For example:
- We have free range hens that roam around the property. They are friendly but beware of chicken poop in the garden (we use this in our compost/garden).
- There may be some spiders and moths around the property as part of the ecosystem.
- Mobile phone reception is weak - although Wifi is available.
- GPS location aren't completely accurate due to Council re-numbering our property a few years back but Google Maps aren't updated. Please follow my specific directions to the property.
In summer, we are likely to have have abundance of homegrown veggies and fruit to share.

Hillwood is set in a lush green valley. It is in Wakapuaka, which is 10 minute drive (north) of Nelson city. It is just off SH6, on the road towards Blenheim from Nelson; near the Gentle Annie hill and Hira. We are not far from the coast, including lovely walks in Glenduan and Cable Bay.

We are lucky enough to be living at Hillwood, a large beautiful historic house in Nelson. We would like to share our spare rooms and the extensive grounds with guests. There is so much serenity to be shared.
