This former Carriage House opens onto to two acres of open grounds. It's neighboring House were built in 1795. They are one of 22 historic homes around the Congregational Church that form the Village of South Britain.

Half a mile away is the Audubon Nature Preserve with 770 acres of trails, a bird sanctuary and 15 miles of hiking trails. Nearby are many more trails, the CT Antiques Trail, and wonderful places to shop and dine on Southbury's Main Street an in the towns of Litchfield County.

お部屋
The Carriage House is private for your use, sharing only a common entry with the Main House and the lawns and gardens. The living room and adjacent television viewing alcove seats 12 and sleeps 2. The dining room seats six with a large picture window overlooking the patio and beyond it's hedge, sweeping views of the lawns and gardens and the more than one hundred foot hill that is a backdrop. It's part of the property - a wonderful climb for the able bodied. Off the dining room is the fully-equipped cooking kitchen and second doorway to the patio, covered tea pavillion, and a second way in from the parking lot through a gate.

Upstairs are two bedrooms with queen-size beds sleeping four: the oversized master with television and an adjacent sun-lit office which can be converted to a Pullman-type curtained compartment sleeping two on an inflatable mattress. There is also a full laundry are and an updated bathroom with shower.

There are three outside seating areas: a hedge-enclosed patio facing the gardens for 6, an adjacent glass- and wisteria-covered tea pavilion for 4; and a gazebo with copper- and grapevine-covered roof which provides shelter for as many as 10.

Parking is available for as many as eight cars near the entrance and more along the roadway.

The acre of lawns has been often used for events such as family gatherings and weddings. It is available at an additional charge. It many be rented separately during your stay with a refund to you for your lack of access at that time.

Southbury、コネチカット州、アメリカ合衆国

This beautiful, under-publicized Village is well preserved and historically important. It has 22 homes dating from 1690 to 1835, two churches from the 1830's, Southbury's first library (1904) and village hall (1893), a country store, and a mill building along the river currently being restored that remains from 1800 when the mills produced as much as any other town in Connecticut.

Southbury's modern shops, restaurants and specialty stores of all types are convenient - a mile or two away on paved roads and there is an unpaved road that serves as a shortcut allowing one to pass through active farm land with cows grazing and barns full of hay.

Within ten miles are dozens of thrift shops and vintage stores. The next town, Woodbury, has a significant 17th century house, a house where the Episcopal church of America was formed thus removing King George as head of the church, and an 1830's blacksmith shop which was in use till recent times.

Further north are the towns of Roxbury, Washington Depot, and Litchfield - each with its own rich history and visitor attractions. World class musical performances take place summers at the Yale School of Music's summer home in Norfolk and the Annual Jazz Festival held in Litchfield.

Southbury and the village of South Britain are remarkable for their history: General Rochambeau camped here in 1782 while engineers found ways of crossing the Housatonic River with the army's cannon on their way to join Washington's army near New York. Southbury is the only town in the US that threw out the Nazis who in 1938 were trying to build their 23rd German Bund Camp which were used to indoctrinate German-Americans.

Architect with specialty practices in historic and public buildings. Taught architecture as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malaysia in the early 60's, as a Fulbright Visiting Professor in Baghdad in the late 60's, as a full professor and dean in setting up Malaysia's first degree-granting programs in the early 70's, and professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology in between overseas stints and into the 80's. Moved practice from Chicago to Southbury in 2010 and presently designing projects in New England. I've travelled overseas often and loved staying at bnb's where friendships were established that have lasted through the years. I love people. My motto is to live life fully each moment.
