The house is fully furnished with air-conditioning, high-speed internet, and plenty of comforts. To help the environment, we've recently added solar panels. Everything you'll need...it's all right here.

Welcome to Casa Elgin! From your view on the deck, you look down at the beach and the Gulf of Mexico. Bring your mask and fins- there's fish to see in the clear water! Enjoy coffee from the deck or take it with you as you stroll the beach. We think you'll find this is one of the most beautiful, relaxing places in the world.
We recently bought our house (May of 2019) and just started listing on Air BNB. Already a beautiful place, we've been working to make it more and more comfortable (ex: solar panels recently installed). We looked at the comfort and convenience like this- what would we want to see when we walk into our vacation place? Cooking basics like spices, etc would be nice (you still need to bring your own bread, other things! :). Plenty of towels, books, games, DVD's are on hand....things you need but didn't want to pack along. It's a long list- contact us if you have a question!
Why this place though? While deciding on a house, my wife and I looked at many, many locations here in the Yucatan and Quintana Roo (poor realtors- we didn't make it easy!) To us though, this place had that special mix of beauty and relaxation. Here, you're close to great dining, shopping, sightseeing, and exploring (cenotes and Mayan ruins!) but away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the commercialism of bigger cities. The area around Casa Elgin is quiet and relaxed, and the beachfront house offers a great deal of privacy and security. Being away from the commercial setting, you have to be flexible with the local customs (ex: the electrical company- the CFE- powers local power down every Sunday morning for a system reset. Local storms are not common, but can blow debris in and knock power out for awhile too.)
And last, when your day is done and you want to relax, grab a drink and enjoy the ocean from the best view in the world.

The neighborhood is very relaxed and quiet. There's restaurants and shopping here in Chelem, and Progresso and Merida are both just a short drive. Our Welcome Book describes other places of interest as well!
Major highways in the Yucatan are clearly marked and very well maintained! Landing in Merida, the drive to Chelem is only about 30 minutes away.

We've been to Mexico many times and love the country! While we live here in Des Moines, Iowa (we're not quite ready to retire!) we wanted to make our place available to others to enjoy. We bought our home in Mexico in May 2019- our daughters tell us they've already staked it our for spring break and summer trips.
