-To me travel is never about my destination, it's always about my journey. I find that hosting is a delightful journey filled with new people, fresh ideas and fond memories.
-Becoming a host helped me discover how many people share my fascination with old houses. There's something special about the architecture, the history and the craftsmanship brought together in the form of a beautiful home. I could spend hours in salvage/recycling places looking for just the right parts to put an old house back together again. I like tinkering with old locks, lights, fixtures and finishes until they're ready for modern living.
-I'm an avid collector of art, objects, books and games. Always hunting for old Parker Brothers card games, books on Venice and Boy Scout memorabilia. One of my favorite weekend activities, cooking while we're sipping a nice red wine.
-Preparations are underway for a big journey....walking 2189 miles from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail. I've already stayed at one airBnB along the trail in Virginia and hope to discover more. We sleep in tents most of the hike but will occasionally splurge on a real bed and a hot shower.
-Hosting has added a new dimension to my house rehabbing business. I'm pretty sure airBnB could provide new life for lots of neglected old houses in cities around the country, I'm thinking about writing a "how to do it" book as my next project. Nameste and safe travels!
