Hi! I guess you'd say I'm somewhat the epitome of a country girl. I was my dad's right-hand "man" growing up on our family farm in eastern Nebraska, but always loved horses even more than tractors. Was taught, early-on, that, in life, it is important to be interestED AND interestING, so I have tried to be that kind of person.
For a long time, I felt I was called to be a writer -- writing the stories of interesting people. That was fun until one day I had the thought, "Hey, how about YOU becoming an interesting person whom OTHER writers want to write about, instead?" So I shifted gears and started looking at what was interesting about MY life, and started doing things that could make interesting reading -- should anyone care to write about them. And they have. But mostly, I just got busy and started DOING things -- whether others were interested or not.
Although I wasn't a great student, I did earn a Bachelor's degree at the age of 38 (my patient parents bragged, jokingly, that I was on the 22 1/2 year plan), followed by a Master's in Education (I was writing a lot of curricula) and -- STUNNER -- a PhD in Leadership! I've written books. Spent more than a decade traveling the country as a motivational speaker. Served two years as the president of the international Association of Applied and Therapeutic Humor. And spent more than 40 years as a professional photographer. But my proudest accomplishments have revolved around raising our four children and helping influence (to date) 14 grandchildren. Well, proudest of those loved ones AND the horse stalls I built BY MYSELF the winter of 2014 out of wood I had harvested out of old barns BY MYSELF. I guess you could say my deal right now is: POWER TOOLS!!! :-)
I'm fast-forwarding, now, but sharing with you my genuine desire to not travel so much, but to bring interesting people to me ... because I have a place others need to experience. The quiet of my airbnb site is deafening. A star-lit night out here is breath-taking. The solitude is healing.
And my horses are therapeutic and have drawn to me friends who have enriched my life beyond measure.
I lost my husband of nearly 48 years in 2016. That hurts ... a LOT. But we had nearly 3 years to deliberately reflect on and celebrate his life's accomplishments. And this ranch was one he made possible out of shear love for me. It was a blessing to have those final years to thank him. And his gift of love to me now gets to continue to bless more lives through this hosting opportunity.
Whereas my goal is to host more than travel at this stage of my life, when I do travel, I strive to be the same kind of guest as I am a host: easy to enjoy and accommodating to others.
