My island home is a traditional 1 & 1/2 storey fisherman's cottage overlooking the Bay of Fundy. With eastern exposure on the deck and sunroom, on sunny days you can enjoy your morning coffee with the sunrise. In the afternoon, the sun comes around to the southern front of the house and vegetable garden. At dawn and dusk the deer come out to play and eat and are often seen very near by. The cottage is cozy & colourful, with handmade art & beach combing treasures featured throughout.

The house is very old - over 150 years old - & has been updated here and there but is still pretty rustic with some odd features that give it character. Be aware there is a steep-ish, non-standard staircase so guests with mobility issues may have difficulty getting up and down stairs. The washroom is on the main floor and I can provide sleeping accommodations on the main floor if the stairs pose a problem - just let me know.

My place is at one end of a small community called Leonardville. There is just a scattering of houses in this part of the village and it is very quiet. The village has a post office and a garage and not much else. However, there is a forest walk and a rocky beach nearby and islands that you can access at low tide, so lots of natural features to explore. There are two small general stores on the island, both in Lords Cove en route to or from the ferry. Bella’s has a good selection of canned and dry goods as well as frozen foods, some fresh(ish) produce, milk etc. but not much else. There are also several small galleries and craft/gift shops on the island and one restaurant called the 45th Parallel, also located in Fairhaven. Janice's Veggies in Fairhaven has fresh local produce in season and my garden is also available so please help yourself - just make sure you close the net fence again so the deer don't get in and help themselves :)

Shopping - Food & Drink:
You will probably want to shop on the mainland before heading to the ferry as there is not much available on the island. St. George is the closest town - take exit 52 or 56 and follow the Main Street into town. There are two sections of the town, separated by the river. One section has a small mall with a good supermarket, a drug store, dollar store etc. The other section has a Scotiabank with ATM, a bakery & a really good butcher shop (Terry’s Meat & More). Uncle Mayn’s is another smaller general type store just off the main road in from the highway at exit 56 & has the only Alcool NB outlet in the area. You can buy wine at the supermarket as well. Gas up before getting on the ferry as there is no gas on the island.

Greetings, fellow travellers - I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to my cozy island home! After living in Toronto, Ontario for the past 30+ years and hosting AirBnB travellers in my downtown condo for the past few years, I recently made a big move to a small island in the Bay of Fundy. Having lived the big city life for many years, I now have the pleasure of experiencing the extreme opposite: peaceful and quiet island living in beautiful New Brunswick. If you are looking for somewhere to sit back, relax and enjoy the East coast scenery, this is the place for you. If you're looking to explore the beauty of the Bay of Fundy area, this is a perfect home base for day trips to St.Andrews, Campobello Island, Grand Manan Island, New River Beach, St Martins Sea Caves, Fundy Trail, Fundy National Park, Hopewell Rocks and much much more. And staying on an island means you get to begin and end your day with a ferry ride if you choose to explore the surrounding attractions. Island activities available for the more (or less) active traveller include beach combing, hiking, sea-kayaking and swimming, with fishing wharves and lighthouses around every corner.

About your host: I'm kind of a home body - I meditate daily, love to read (fiction, mostly), am addicted to crossword puzzles, enjoy good food, adore documentary films and other movies, but I also like to stay home and play piano and sing for my own entertainment. I do like to go out and hear live music once in a while and enjoy the cultural offerings available on the mainland. I’m a teacher during the school year & work part-time in the summer for a whale-watching tour operator in St. Andrews, but when at home you’ll find me tending my garden and taking life as it comes. I am also a very good cook and can include some home-cooked meals with your stay for a small extra charge if you wish. My home is your home and you are free to help yourselves to fresh veggies from the garden and cook for yourselves as well while you are here.
