お部屋 Platja de Sant Elm also known as Es Geparut
Platja de Sant Elm or es Geperut is situated at eight kilometres from Andratx, and it is named by the oratory of 1279 by the king Jaume II, dedicated to the saint of the navigators. This sandy area is the biggest in Andratx and one of the most important touristic areas which are not massive. Es Geperut is divided into two beaches, the bigger one has white sand and the smaller one has gravel. In front of its coast you can see the small island of es Pantaleu, where the conquist of Majorca by Catalonia and Aragon began with king Jaume I in 1229, and Illa de sa Dragonera.
This bay is the last safe anchorage between Andratx and Sóller. It is open to the winds from the southwest-west-northwest, although it is protected by es Pantaleu, with a calm water, except when the wind is blowing from the west-southwest. There are two areas for anchoring: between the small island and the coast, on the northwest of the wharf, with a depth of two metres, lots of small boats tied to the buoys and the access area for passenger launches, aswell as between es Pantaleu and the beach, toward southeast, on a sandy ground, with a depth between four and seven metres. The nearest port facilities are located at Port d‘Andratx, at 3,6 nautical miles.
The accessibility by car is easy following the signs. You can park your car in the surroundings of this beach on a pay-parking area. You can also reach this beach with the public transport. The nearest bus stop is located at ten metres from the beach.
These characteristics explain that the beach is very crowded by by local visitors and tourists.
The municipality of Andratx is situated at the western end of Majorca, where the Serra de Tramuntana has the lowest mountains (Moleta de s'Esclop, 928 metres) and the coast is characterized by the small coves and high cliffs (up to 300 metres high), with valleys in the interior. The origin of the name is uncertain (four possibilities, celtic, arab, latin or catalan).
The big ecologic richness of this territory explains that 95 percent of the extension is protected by law, with sa Dragonera, the small island with the biggest extension of the Balearic Islands (2,88 hectares, 3,7 kilometres long, na Pòpia, a hill of 353 metres and natural reserve since 1995), la Trapa (Zona de Especial Protección para las Aves) and the agricultural valleys of Andratx, s'Arracó and Camp de Mar (Áreas Naturales de Interés Paisajístico).
The coastal area in rich in very old and medieval shipwrecks. King Jaume I d'Aragó and his troop anchored between sa Dragonera and Sant Elm on the 7th of December 1229, three days before conquering Majorca. Between the 15th and the 17th centuries it suffered pirate attacks. Port d'Andratx was the most important Spanish port infrastructure in the 19th century, for the transport of soap toward the mainland and America. The construction and the tourism lead the economy since the end of the seventies of the 20th century.
Its cultural variety includes Molins de sa Planeta, towers So na Gaiana and Sant Carles, Son Orlandis, Son Bosc, Son Mas. The municipality has 12 beaches.
