The Bairro República forms with Sé the Historic Center of São Paulo. The region is part of one of the smallest districts of the city.
In the middle of the 20th century, the place that now houses Praça da República was used for military training, and a few years later it received bullfights. After the proclamation of the republic, the square has gained the name that keeps until today.
The space has great historical importance, since it was the stage of the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932 and symbol of the hippie movement. Today it is a pleasant place of leisure and receives every Sunday the Fair of the Republic Square, which has more than 100 stalls.
