The worship includes: 30 minutes of history about the town and the marble and 90 minutes of marble carving. A 45 min walking tour of the town can be added for an additional cost. As for the carving, each guest will receive a 5-6” block of Carrara marble that they will use to learn the traditional method of marble carving, by hand. Both hammer/chisel and power tools will be used to better understand how a work in marble is initiated. Because the workshop will have a duration of two hours, we will not be focusing on creating a completed piece of art, but rather we will focus on learning the carving techniques (how to hold the chisel, different stages of the carving process, what to look for in a block of marble, etc.), educating ourselves on the different types of marble (what makes each type unique) and learning the history of the stone and it’s legacy in Carrara. And the best part? You’ll be instructed by a professional sculptor who is eager to share his knowledge of this beautiful and historical art form.
