1. You'll be introduced to the site, Halleck Vineyard, and a bit about its history in Sonoma County. You will be introduced by the vintner to the land and the vines. 2. We will sit down and learn how to taste: why do we smell to begin? what does our tongue taste? what is the reason and benefit in pairing wine with food? 3. We will go through 5 wines, all from the neighborhood and explore how different they taste and the nuances of each. And we'll taste a single food pairing to see how it brings something to the experience. 4. We'll learn about wine in human history, 8000 years in the making. 5. We talk about building community through wine, how we convert wine into good for our world. 6. You'll meet interesting people and how much we share in common.
We have have lived in the Sebastopol Hills for almost 30 years, planting the very first Pinot Noir vineyard in western Sebastopol; the region is now considered one of the finest growing regions in the world. A book on our table cites us as pioneers of the area. I'm a traveller and educator. I guest lecture in the MBA program at Sonoma State University and speak at national conferences. I spent years in Kenya teaching as a young man. Jennifer and I are warm, passionate and enliven to the enjoyment of our guests. Halleck Vineyard earned #1 Pinot Noir in the US our first vintage. In 2019, we were judged #1 Pinot Noir in North America in the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the oldest and most respected in the country. Our Dry Gewurztraminer was judged Best White in the California State Fair, receiving 99 Points.
You'll see our vineyard overlooking Sonoma County and enjoy tasting from our dining room, with a view of the vineyard.
