The Experience assumes you're interested Melt and Pour soap making, which is quick, fun and the results are effectively instantaneous and visually appealing. I am also set up for basic Cold Process soap making, which combines oils, water, lye and natural additives, just like our great grandmothers did. The results are more earthy and require a curing time (you'll take your creation away in a temporary mold). Everyone will leave with at least two full pounds of soap of their own making. Everything is provided including light snacks and drinks, but by all means bring a bottle of wine if you choose! For Melt and Pour we'll talk through the basics, then go about choosing from a wide variety of molds, fragrances and colors, then proceed to melt, mix and mold. For Cold Process, again we'll talk through the basics, run the calculations, measure the components and start mixing. The mixture goes into a temporary mold which you will take home. In a day or so, after the soap hardens, you can extract it from the mold and divide into bars of your liking.
Chris & Catherine
My name is Chris and I'm a retired telecom engineer. I busy myself with a variety of crafts and hobbies as well as having been an AirBnB Stay Host for several years. I also host an AirBnB coin ring making Experience. I began making soap a number of years ago as a matter of curiosity. Like many, I started with Melt and Pour and then progressed to Cold Process soap making. My handmade soaps have become countless gifts, enjoyed success at the occasional craft fair, but by far the the most fun has been sharing the process with others. Like many crafts, it can be relatively simple or very complex. I keep it simple. The basic infrastructure for soap making is inexpensive (as compared to outfitting a woodshop) and by now I have many friends who would not be without the ability to make their own soap!
Light snacks will be on hand. Feel free to bring food items of your choosing.
Water and soft drinks are provided. Please bring wine if you like...this is a wonderful wine drinking activity!
All necessary equipment and materials are provided.
The entire Experience take place in the kitchen/dining area of our house, just a few miles west of Old Town Temecula.
Please decide if you'd like to make Melt and Pour soap (excellent choice for first-timers and certainly more fun) or Cold Process soap (more like following a recipe and the better choice for those who want to learn the basics of CP soap making). Please send an Inquiry if you'd like to discuss!
