Would you like to leave Lisbon having created something that is functional and fashionable? The Print a Tote Bag workshop lets you take a fashion forward step into not only sustainable design but also gives you a chance to create wearable art. During the two hours participants are guided in relief printing processes, focusing on lino printing techniques and ways in which to create repeat pattern and multi-coloured images. With twenty years of printing experience between us, we will assist you with one on one tuition in the creation of your very own stylish motif. Within this two-hour workshop you’ll discover your creative printing potential, mastering skills which will allow you to handprint beautiful textiles for the rest of your life. Perfect for friends, families and solo travellers, looking to make some art and friends. You will leave the workshop having created something that is not only functional but also tells a story of your experience within Lisboa.
All materials required for the workshop are provided, including pencils, paper, inks and rollers.
We are Tom and Jilly, artist printmakers and co-founders of Lisboa Social Press, an artist run space for hands-on-creative workshops. Jilly graduated with a Masters in Fine Art Printmaking from the Royal College of Art in 2015 and Tom from Bath Spa in 2012. He subsequently went on to work in New York, returning to London to set up a bespoke handprinted wallpaper business. Both artists have run workshops across the UK and abroad, Jilly having organised several workshops at the Fashion & Textile museum and Brighton University.
Located on the Rua Santa Justa in Baixa, our third floor atelier is just seconds from the Elevator Santa Justa and offers a space of quietude from the bustling street below. Originally in an apartment, the atelier boasts all of its original features including its traditional Azulejos tiles. The building, constructed soon after the 1755 earthquake, is a beautiful example of the city's renovation under Marques de Pombal.

Your tote will take 12 hours to dry, so we can arrange a collection time or a shipment of artwork for a small fee. The atelier is located on the third floor and so there is no disabled access.
