I've spent a very long time observing what tourists eat in Rome. Sadly to say, the results are generally not positive. Because I cannot bear to see people leave a city like Rome without seeing and tasting the very best it has to offer, I decided to take on a second identity as the food police and shake things up a bit. This experience is with a born and bred Roman who leads you through her 10 favorite snack spots in the historic center. 10 Tastings criss-crosses the River Tiber in the early evening, when views in every direction are magnificent and food stops taken are in many of the most picturesque places in Rome. You can expect to relax and eat the best food Rome has to offer on piazzas, secluded side-streets, and riverside walks. The foods you will eat are as distinctive by region as they are plentiful, as follows: suppli, calzone and pizza, pasta to share (cacio e pepe, carbonara or amatriciana), parmigiana, arrosticini and bruschetta, filetto baccalà, salami with a small glass of wine, ciambellina al vino, tiramisù, coffee and limoncello. I'm the founder of a small Tour company based in Rome called When In Rome Tours. Over the past 15 years I have had the pleasure of interacting with clients from all over the world, and listening to what they love about Rome. Based on their feedback, I'm here to offer a different kind of "tour" as a host. My job involves spending my days around the major monuments of Rome, where much to my dismay I have learned that these are the areas where 1) the quality of food is generally poor and 2) they really make you pay an arm and a leg for it. In a country where the food is arguably the best in the world, I cannot bear to see visitors get such a bad glimpse of the Rome food scene. Hence, the creation of 10 TASTINGS: the product of an expat Roman entrepreneur and a Roman born and bred foodie.
