Downtown Chicago is iconic, but sometimes it's nice to get out of downtown and head for fresh air and green spaces! Chicago isn't often thought of as a hiking destination, but we have many beautiful landscapes reachable within an hour of the city! We'll meet at the Logan Square Blue Line stop and head to the Skokie Lagoons, a wooded preserve approx 15 miles north of The Loop that offers visitors a peaceful retreat from the urban developments that surround it. We'll wander a combination of paved and unpaved trails that wind around the pools, channels and islands of the marshlands, woodlands, and grasslands. Weather permitting, we'll pause along the way for a short yoga or meditation session overlooking the water. No experience required! After working up an appetite, we'll head to Old Irving Brewery for lunch and a pint of their beer that is brewed onsite in the Irving Park Neighborhood. They were recently named one of the Top 10 Best Brewpubs by USA Today, and awarded a spot on the 24 best burgers in Chicago by Timeout. After lunch, it's an quick walk to the Montrose Blue Line Stop. You'll return from the experience a little sweaty, very satisfied, and with a greater appreciation for the natural beauty and delicious brews Chicagoland has to offer!
I'm Steph and I love helping people plan trips and excursions that bring them joy and fulfillment. I also believe you don't always have to hop on a plane to find adventure and excitement, it's waiting for you right outside your front door! This philosophy lead me to develop a passion for hiking in and around Chicagoland! I set and achieved a goal of going on 40 hikes in 2018, and I'm over halfway through the hikes featured in "60 Hikes within 60 miles of Chicago", hoping to finish all 60 in 2019! Other fun facts: I'm a certified yoga instructor and a frequenter of Chicago breweries. I worked in corporate america as a CPA for 12 years before starting a travel planning company. I've guided small groups on trips around Iceland's ring road! I'm an avid traveler and love exploring sights, food and cultures near and far.
