Mt. Marathon is one of the most beloved mountains in Seward. It is here where we host one of the nation's hardest 5k races every 4th of July where racers battle up a steep and often treacherous trail to the top. During our excursion we will hike up the less steep jeep trail and along the bench taking us to the Mt. Marathon Bowl. We will meet at the Mount Marathon jeep trail trailhead located at 1st and Monroe. From there we will hike this moderate to difficult trail that is a Seward local favorite. On our hike we will see amazing vistas, as well as lush forest, waterfalls, running streams, and alpine meadows. We will hike to the Mount Marathon bowl where we can spend some time exploring the stunning mountain bowl. Though this trail is not as difficult as the racers trail, it is still a challenging hike where you will deal with elevation gain, occasional overgrown areas on the trail, and points of steep assent and descent. This hike is roughly 4 miles roundtrip but the difficulty comes from the approximate 1,400 ft in elevations gain. On the hike I will offer you knowledge of the trail, local flora and fauna, local history, as well as insight of what it's like to live in Seward.
I run a small company called The Mindful Marmot doing guided hiking and outdoor yoga adventures. I've been living in Seward for 5 years, am an avid hiker, surfer, and certified yoga instructor. I started my business to share my passions for the outdoors with people coming to visit Alaska, as well as Alaska locals. I offer a variety of different hikes and excursions on my website but would love to share some on Air Bnb experiences as well.
I will carry both bear spray and a first aid kit (which hopefully we won't need to use either but good to be prepared)
We will stop along our hike to explore waterfalls, streams, viewpoints overlooking Resurrection Bay, and the stunning Marathon Bowl
