The day will start with two informational spots where we’ll meet locals who will give us interesting accounts of the troubles that sparked the Cyprus divide. You’ll then cross the border into the Turkish-occupied North and explore alongside the fenced-off ghost town stopping on the way for a closer look into the lost city. We’ll continue to the sandy shores of the Famagusta beach where the closed-off area ends to peek at the derelict hotels and empty buildings. Throughout the morning I'll take you to some unique view points which will give you a fantastic look into the ghost town of Varosha. Next we'll make a stop in Famagusta town center where you'll have some free time to explore and see the sites. Here you can see the Saint Nicholas Cathedral (now operating as a mosque) plus more amazing Venetian architecture. After visiting the quaint town center of Famagusta we’ll head back across the border to enjoy an authentic meze lunch – a spread of delicious Cypriot dishes. We’ll end the day with a wine tasting that focuses on the wines and indigenous grape varieties of Cyprus and will include the famous Cyprus Commandaria sweet wine.
Louisa & Team
Born in the UK to Cypriot parents, I visited Cyprus often and enjoyed spending time on the island. It always held a special place in my heart and in 2008 I made the move. With a deep love for Cyprus culture and cuisine, I intentionally began creating meaningful connections with locals and spending time exploring it's history and hidden gems. I loved sharing it all with loved ones, and soon enough I found myself touring friends of friends who holidayed here. In 2011, Cyprus Taste Tours was born. Today I continue to love sharing Cyprus with those interested in experiencing it's true essence.
A traditional Cypriot meze lunch is included in the price. They'll also be nibbles with the wine tasting.
Along the way we'll be stopping for a traditional Cyprus coffee. Local drinks & wine is also included in your meze lunch…
