Explore the incredible Devil's Backbone trail with the ultimate hiking partner - a goat! The trail is the epitome of Colorado's diverse landscape as we follow the ancient rock formations that look like a prehistoric dinosaur's spine. You'll start by choosing a goat for each hiker from the comfort of your home. Each goat has a very unique personality, just like their humans. Check out the biography page on my website: https://www.blessyourheartranch.com/goat-bios-1 We can have a maximum of 6 goats (1 goat per hiker). We will then all meet at the trailhead at 8:30am. Everyone has a meet and greet and is introduced to their goat. We'll give you detailed handling and safety instructions on how to work with your new hiking partner. Off we go down the trail! I will remain as a guide to answer any and all questions. The hike is approximately 3 hours round trip, depending on hiker ability. We'll pause at look-out points, including the famous keyhole that's carved in the ancient rock formation. There is a lovely picnic table that we can stop at for snacks.
I started my business, Bless Your Heart Ranch, as a way to offer an educational and fun experience with goats and horses. Since day 1 of bottle feeding my goats, I discovered how sweet, loyal, and engaging they were. Being an avid hiker and horse endurance rider, I started taking them on trails throughout the front range. Hikers were enthralled by how well-behaved and charming they were. Based on public demand and enthusiasm, I added goat hiking to my business. Majoring in animal science and nutrition at CSU, as well as training horses for over 15 years, I'm passionate about explaining the process of raising and handling livestock with their best well-being and nutrition at heart. Most of all, it's vital to reconnect people with nature and animals.
We will provide goats, plus their leash and collars
The Devil's Backbone trailhead is both a historical and geological wonder. It encompasses ancient rock formations, lovely grasslands, and soaring mountain views. We can customize the distance based on hiker experience, especially if you're new to the high altitude. Prepare to become super popular - other hikers are usually enthralled when they come across your goat companion. It's not everyday you get to meet a goat!
If you're new to the Colorado altitude, please be prepared to wear sunscreen, a hat, and to stay hydrated! You can never drink enough water. There are restrooms at the trail.
