We will discover interesting, but mostly unknown history of Jewish people in the Mediterranean city of Split. We will experience the importance of Jewish people, culture and their important impact on the development of the city, starting from the ancient times to the present day. It is a unique experience where we will discover how the small but strong community managed to keep their tradition for more than 1700 years on the same place. First we will visit the ancient cellars of Diocletian's palace and learn more about the famous palace and it's connection to the Jewish people in ancient times. Then we will visit the Jewish ghetto and visit the exterior of old Jewish houses where they lived in the Medieval period. Also, on the People's square we will learn more about distinguished Vid Morpurgo - a persona who impacted the entire history of Split. In the synagogue we will experience Jewish customs and religion, and also stories about local members of the community. We will end experience with the visit to the Jewish cemetery - now the protected Monument of culture. It is a story of great achievements and suffering, but also a story of creating a new better world.
I am providing tickets to the entrance of Diocletian's palace cellars.
Hello, I am very excited to present you my new unique and unforgettable experience - Jewish tour in Split city. I am a local resident born in Split and passionate about local history. That is one of the main reason why I have graduated archaeology. I am also hosting tours where you can discover local cultural treasures of Split city and ancient Salona city which I would be thrilled to show you. I am also a big fan of GoT series and would be excited to show you the filming locations in Split. Come to a tour with me and have the best experience in your life with a unique guide
First, we will visit the famous Diocletian's cellars protected by UNESCO. Then we will go in the former Jewish ghetto (also inside Diocletian's palace, but above the cellars), and see Rodrigo's street - dedicated to important Jewish merchant. We will see the exterior of Morpurgo's library on people's square. Only a minute from the library we will visit the synagogue. Then, on the base of the Marjan hill we will visit the Jewish cemetery.
I would recommend booking a tour not after 12 am, because the synagogue is opened till 2 pm, so that you have enough time to visit everything that interest you.
