What we do will be tailored to what you want. During your 2-hour private, educational, mini-course in my experimental 30+-year-old butterfly and insect-friendly mini-wild(er)ness you can either: -- concentrate on how butterfly gardening works and the plants needed (caterpillar food plants) to increase the numbers of butterflies in your garden or local area, and develop your own plan for your own garden to your own tastes, or -- just come and visit to learn more and enjoy with a whole range in between. Experience the joy, and find out what's possible anywhere on Earth from temperate, sub-tropical to tropical zones, also how butterfly & insect-friendly gardening will help you transform and beautify your place on Earth. You will be contributing to our future, so that we, our children and our children’s children can thrive in a sustainable, healthy and nature-rich world. Butterflies are "solar-powered". The warmer it is the more there are and the faster they fly. The season is coming into winter in Brisbane and it’s cooling off, so now they may be hiding to survive or alive in another, less visible, part of their lifecycle: either, eggs, caterpillars or chrysalises.
Learn about and share the joy of the lives of butterflies - their cycle of growth, change, transformation and renewal - and all right before your eyes and at home. My offer: develop your "how-to" action plan. Fresh from 15 years experience leading butterfly tours, speaking and running workshops at south-east Queensland's Woodford Folk Festival and elsewhere, including private tours of my own garden, also 35 years raising 75 different species and co-authoring 2 books, you will draw on my extensive knowledge and experience while learning in my 30+-year-old butterfly breeding garden. I’m a qualified ecologist and adult educator. My passion is connecting you with nature and growing the needed food sources to increase urban diversity. Learn to share my fascination with the little creatures our Earth: butterflies, bees and other life-forms.
Choose from a variety of teas, plunger coffee or juice and biscuits. Let me know your dietary needs.
My plant-rich, inner-Brisbane garden is on 405 sqm (16 perch). Over the 30+ years since it was set up, 50 different species of caterpillar food plants are thriving in a low-watering, low-maintenance gardening regime. It’s an experimental garden which we'll examine for what you can do in your own spaces and places: balconies, small to large gardens, nature strips, local parks, revegetation sites, etc
Did you know that we can make a huge difference with supporting butterflies and helping keep our environment healthy by concentrating on growing your own local native plants rather than ornamentals?
