This jam-packed two-hour tour will introduce you to most of Nanaimo's most notable landmarks, stories and, of course, its world famous dessert. We will commence the tour at the city's most famous building, the Bastion. To provide perspective for the rest of the tour, I'll share some interesting stories from Nanaimo's history from the First Nations to Coal Mining through to the present day. From the Bastion, we'll walk along historic Commercial Street and sample some artisan gelato at Cold Front; take some insta-worthy photographs at the Urban Art Gallery; explore the charming Old City Quarter; try our famous NANAIMO BAR; And stroll the vibrant seawall in search of birds and marine life. The tour ends at Maffeo Sutton Park with a local craft beer sample at the trendy White Sails Brewery.
I'm a seasoned and well travelled tour guide by profession: I've spent thousands of hours as a host aboard Western Canada's world class Rocky Mountaineer Train; endured many blistering days guiding in the Australian outback; and now, lead groups of up to 50 people by coach through the best parts of British Columbia and Alberta for a decorated, luxury tour operator. After spending the past three years based in Vancouver (where I was twice nominated for the Vancouver Tourism Awards), my partner and I chose to make a home here in Nanaimo and we take great pride in showcasing the reasons why!
The tour will include a bite-sized sample of the city's celebrated dessert, The Nanaimo Bar.
The tour will include a sample-sized glass (6oz) of locally brewed craft beer at White Sails Brewing.
Join me on a walk down memory lane as I bring the storied past and bright future of one of Western Canada's oldest cities to life as we explore the downtown core, old city quarter and seawall on foot. After meeting at the Bastion, we will walk down historic commercial street, up to the Old City Quarter for a Nanaimo Bar, and along the sea wall before ending the tour with a refreshment at White Sails Brewing.
Depending on group size, the tour will last between 90 and 120 minutes and guests will be required to approximately two kilometres with limited opportunities for sitting.
