We will engage in common interest dialect. I will educate about ways to cut a log and hope it sparks good discussions. Then, at this point we will head right into each making our own cuts with the option of keeping your own slab. This is the exciting part, when the grain is fresh and the beauty is revealed. The types of cuts we make will be all up to each guests desires. We can do boards or live edge slabs. These can be used for tables, benches, mantels, shelves etc.
I started woodworking 18 years ago. Rarely finding traditional means satisfying, I am constantly exploring unique uses for wood through processes like stabilization and steam bending. I have found it rewarding and necessary to source and mill my own lumber to create a truly unique outcome. This has enhanced the fundamental understanding of the characteristics of wood. Meeting people through sustainably sourcing fell trees has been a humbling experience. Now I can offer this to others through this platform - that's exciting.
Ear protection / Eye protection. Guests will also have the option of keeping the wood we cut.
The entire experience will take place on my property. We will spend some time in the shop and most of the time outside at the sawmill.
Despite the potential dangers of heavy equipment this activity is relatively safe... and really fun.
