We start at one of our favourite spots in Edinburgh, the iconic Ross Fountain in Princes' Street Gardens, with the most amazing views of the Castle. We'll tell a few exciting stories from the castle's history, before we go for our warm-up around the beautiful gardens. We'll then have a wee stretch before we set off for our run around the city. We've picked a route which shows off the most beautiful secret spots of Edinburgh. You'll hear some fantastic stories from history that we love, but not too many folk know about... You'll discover why there's a bear in Princes' Street Gardens (not a real one, don't worry), you'll hear stories that inspired Hollywood films, you'll learn about Robert Louis Stevenson and the story behind Jekyll & Hyde, you'll hear tales of Scots adventuring in the New World, 19th century fraudsters and scandals that rocked the city, and we might even have time for some cannibalism (apologies to the vegetarians). The route is 10k, but we'll be stopping plenty for a little chat and to take pictures (you'll want to, believe me). At the end, we'll be heading to a great Scottish pub for a blether (chat, in English) and a drink... We find running is thirsty work!
A drink in the pub!
Hello! We're Calum & Euan, two brothers who were born and raised here in Edinburgh and we are very passionate about our city! We're both keen runners as well, whether it's a 5k, a 10k, or a half marathon. We decided to combine our passions to create the Secrets of Edinburgh Running Tour! Having been raised in the city, we know Edinburgh like the back of our hands - all the best spots to explore, or go for a drink and a bite to eat. Together, we have over 5 years experience in tour guiding, and know all the best stories from Edinburgh's history! But the thing we love most about guiding is getting to meet people from all over the world, creating genuine connections and having a good laugh. So, make sure you pack your short shorts and sweatbands (please don't), and join us for a run to remember around one of the best cities in the world.
Our route includes; - the beautiful Princes' Street Gardens - the West End - the picturesque Dean Village - the water of Leith - the eclectic Stockbridge area - Edinburgh's historical New Town (UNESCO world heritage site) - Calton Hill (with stunning views) and the surrounding area - Holyrood Palace - the Scottish Parliament buildings - we'll finish at Arthur's Seat (not at the top, don't worry!)
