Guests will meet me behind Baldwin Lake in a neighbor where there is lots of trail parking. I will lead guests on a locals tour along the Pacific Crest Trail and hopefully we will get to interact with Big Bear’s wild burros (from a safe distance) I see wild burros here in the morning 8 out of 10 times I hike here. I will take my guests on the best route to hopefully see our wild burrros. Guests who are joining me on this hike mid-April-May don't be surprised if we meet friendly PCT Thru-hikers on our journey on the PCT! These hikers hike 2,650 miles in a season as they follow the trail from Mexico to Canada. Pretty wild cactus flowers are in bloom in the springtime along this trail; If the cactus are in bloom, I’ll even harvest a cactus blossom snack for my guests. Or we might stop to try other edible plants of the San Bernardino National Forest. If you choose to hike the trail with me in March there may still be small patches of snow on the trail. There are many great photo opportunities along this section of trail. If we are lucky we may even see wild donkeys migrating between Arreste Creek and Shay Meadows! This hike is pretty easy, good for kids, not a lot of elevation gain. I see donkeys 8 out of every 10 times I hike here but seeing the wild donkeys is not guaranteed.
I've been exploring the wilderness of the San Bernardino Mountains for the last twenty years. I've hiked most of the Pacific Crest Trail through the Big Bear Valley and know all the prettiest spot. As your outdoor adventure guide through mountain trails I'm fluid on the plants and creatures that roam these mountains. I know all the prettiest spots in the mountains around the Big Bear area for hiking and outdoor fun adventures. Photography and photo editing are one of my passions as well, and if my guests want, I will help take posed and candid shots of them as we trek along this pretty trail.
Tasting of wild cactus flowers or yucca flowers when in bloom
Each group to book this hike will get an official Pacific Crest Trail bumper sticker.
We will start our hike up the Pacific Crest Trail where the views are amazing. This is a great area to spot burros in the morning. They hang out all over this swatch of forest in between migrating down to Shay Meadows to snack. We will hike up the hill, along the Pacific Crest Trail then go back a different way. If we see any butterflies migrating I’ll teach your group a little about our local butterflies and how to photograph them easily
9歳以上の方4名まで参加できます。 Most of this hike is downhill but it’s still a three-hour hike, usually 4-6 miles of hiking, depending on your speed, so expect to be in good enough physical shape to be on your feet for that long.
Dogs are invited on this hike but I recommend they be leashes. There are rattlesnakes on this trail. If guests are interested in a longer tour of the PCT I offer that also. Ask about pricing.
