My hometown of Tooting, recently named in Lonely Planet as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world to live in, is full of wondrous hidden gems. From vibrant multicultural markets to a beautiful bingo hall housed in an iconic Grade I cinema, I'll share the stories behind these gems as well as introduce you to the communities and individuals that make Tooting such a special place. We'll wander through the colourful streets stopping off at various locations along the way including various Indian and Pakistani sweet and savoury shops where you can try some delicious street food. There will be an opportunity to end with a dosa meal at a cosy Sri Lankan restaurant/cafe.
I'm the founder of the Living London tour company. A born and bred Londoner, I've explored, photographed and written about over a thousand hidden gems across the city, from bingo halls and burial grounds to wild nature reserves and quirky art galleries. Through my explorations, I've met hundreds of interesting Londoners - artists, urban explorers, filmmakers, storytellers, mudlarks, conservationists- even a lighthouse keeper. I've been leading secret wanderings, workshops and events in different areas of London for years. I know the city inside out- it's people, places and stories. Find me at @livinglon / livinglondon.org
We'll be visiting a number of interesting places on the walk including the vibrant Tooting High street and markets, a regal bingo hall, a hidden graffiti yard and a mosque.
