You’ll select a piece of leather from my stash and make your own leather journal. Because the class is limited to four people, you’ll get lots of one-on-one attention as you use hand tools to make your book. You’ll be using the same quality materials I use in my business daily and you’ll have choices like closure type and thread color and even stitching pattern! This is a fun activity for couples, a girls-night out or anyone who wants to try something new. No experience necessary — we’ll go through everything step-by-step!. Finished books are 5.5 inches x 4.25 inches, and here's a bonus: if you finish on time, you can personalize your cover (doesn’t work with all leather choices). Please note: I offer a second workshop in Beginning Bookbinding. I'm always happy to switch which workshop I teach at a given time as long as no one has signed up yet. I can also work with you to find a day/time that works for you with a two-student minimum. Just message me!
I’m Kris and I’ve been making books by hand since 1998, specializing in photo albums and journals. I've been selling my work for almost 10 years and currently run Scroll & Ink Bookbinding from my studio in a 1897 Old Louisville brick Victorian home. Most recently from the Northwest, I’ve been enjoying the fabulous Old Louisville lifestyle for several years now. I enjoy sharing my passion for making things and love the guests I meet through Airbnb in this workshop!
I offer a nut/chocolate snack mix to all guests. Please let me know beforehand if you have a nut allergy and I'll find…
The workshop is held in my bookbinding studio in Old Louisville, on the third floor of our 1897 brick Victorian home. While a house tour isn’t formally included, you’ll walk through much of the home on the way to the studio. And feel free to ask me what happened in the dining room in the 60s — I’ll give you a clue: guns were involved!
18歳以上の方3名まで参加できます。 No prior experience is necessary for this activity. Just bring your positive, can-do attitude!
The studio is on the third floor of my home — that’s lots of stairs! Feel free to bring a drink as long as it has a lid. And you might want to wear closed-toe shoes in case a sharp tool rolls off the table. Classes with more than 2 students may take a little more than 2 hours.
